Top 30 New Changes To Chaos Daemons

It has been a week rich with information concerning the upcoming Chaos Daemons Codex. First off we had Games Workshop’s Twitch preview Friday with tons of datasheets rules previews and more. And now thanks to winters SEO’s review, we now have more information regarding changes to points costs and datasheets.

This article includes all the new information we have gathered from Winters’ review and was not covered in our other confirmed Daemon rules posts.

Changes

  • Horrors no longer have Ephemeral Form rule on their datasheet. They now have Ephemeral Demons core rule: Pink Horrors have an invulnerable save of a 4+, Blue Horrors have an invulnerable save of a 5+, and Pairs of Brimstone Horrors have an invulnerable save of a 6+. Their Magic Made Manifest rule has the addition of: “If the unit managing to manifest the Smite psychic power has less than 10 Pink Horrors, it only does one mortal wound instead of D3 wounds.”
  • Pink Horrors are now 7 points each, down from 10 each.
  • Pairs of Brimstone Horrors are now 3 points each, up from 2 each.
  • There is no longer a Warp Storm table.
  • Be’lakor is now 280 points, up from 240.
  • Burning Chariot is now 120 points, up from 98.
  • Exalted Flamer is now 90 points, up from 70.
  • Karanak is now 70 points, down from 116.
  • Lord of Change is now 320 points, down from 340.
  • Kairos Fateweaver is now 370 points, down from 400.
  • Skull Cannon is now 100 points, down from 147. It now has 48″ range, is now Heavy D6 shots, and has -2AP.
  • Skarbrand is now 360 points, down from 380.
  • Beasts of Nurgle are 34 points each, down from 38 each.
  • Bloodletters are now 7 points each, down from 9 each.
  • Chaos Furies are now 10 points each, down from 12 each.
  • Daemonettes are now 7 points each, down from 9 each.
  • Plaguebearers are now 7 points each, down from 8 points each.
  • Phlegm Bombardment is now Heavy D6 shots instead of Heavy D3.

Chaos Demons

  • Skarbrand, Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage, and Unfettered Fury have a new rule. Deathbringer: For each unmodified roll of a 6 made for this model’s attacks in the Fight phase, it scores two hits instead of one. No other rules or stat changes.
  • Herald of Khorne is now named Blood Master; Herald of Khorne on Juggernaut is now named Skull Master; and Heralrd of Khorne on a Blood Throne is now named Blood Throne. No stats or rules changes.
  • The Changeling has had an ability change. Locus of Transmogrification now reads: “Roll a D6 each time a friendly Tzeentch daemon model within 9″ of The Changeling loses a wound. On a 6+, that model is surrounded by a twisting aura of change and does not lose the wound.”
  • Blue Scribes‘ have had ability changes as well. Sorcerous Siphon has been changed and Blue Scribes can no longer use the psychic power they siphoned from an enemy psyker. Sorcerous Barrage will now have the Scribes manifesting the Smite psychic power if they siphoned a psychic power in the last enemy psychic phase.
  • Herald of Tzeentch is now named Changecaster; Herald on a Burning Chariot is now named Fateskimmer; and Herald on a Disc is now named Fluxmaster. No stats or rules changes.
  • Rotigus and the Great Unclean One have 18 wounds. Their Ballistic Skill is 3+ and their Weapon Skill is a 2+. Their Strength and Attack characteristics will drop based on the number of wounds remaining. They also have the Putrid Offering ability. They can suffer a mortal wound which they can bank the result until their next psychic phase, where they can then add +1 to the result of a psychic text.
  • The Great Unclean One can also use the Reverberating Summons ability if he is equipped with a Doomsday Bell and attempts to summon a unit of Nurgle daemons to the field. He can roll 4 dice instead of 3. In addition, at the start of you turn, you can roll a D6 for each Nurgle daemon unit within 7″ of a GUO with a Doomsday Bell. On a 4+, a slain model is returned to that unit. The Doomsday Bell is a melee weapon at +1 STR, -1AP, and D3 Damage.

  • The new Sloppity Bilepiper has the Jolly Gutpipes ability, which add +1 to the Attack characteristics of Nurgling and Great Unclean Ones that are within 6″ of him. In addition, Nurglings and GUOs can declare a charge even if they advanced in the Movement phase if they are within 6″ of the Sloppity Bilepiper.
  • The new Spoilpox Scrivener adds +2 to the Movement characteristic of all friendly Plaguebearer infantry units within 6″. He also adds +1 to all hit rolls made by friendly Plaguebearer units within 6″. In addition, when you make a hit roll of 7+ for a Plaguebearer unit with 6″ of this model, you can make additional attacks.
  • Horticulous Slimux has 7 Wounds. he has Lopping Shears: +1 STR, -3AP, D3 damage, and you re-roll failed wound rolls. He has 4 attacks at 5 STR. Mulch, his snail mount, has one attack at 7 STR, -4AP, 3 Damage. Both Slimux and Mulch have a Weapon and Ballistic skill of 2+. He has Beasthandler: re-roll failed charge rolls for friendly Beasts of Nurgle within 6″ of this model and add +1 to all hit rolls for friendly Beasts of Nurgle that are within 12″ of this model. In Death, There is Life: At the start of your turn, if any friend or foe models were slain in the last turn within 7″ of this model, this model regains a lost wound. He also seeds the Garden of Nurgle by placing one Feculent Gnarlmaw at the end of your Movement phase, within 3″ of him and more than 1″ from any other models. Only one Slimux may be included your army.
  • Feculent Gnarlmaws: At the start of your turn roll a D6 for every unit within 3″ of this model. On a 4+, that unit suffers a mortal wound. On a 6+, it suffers D3 mortal wounds. Nurgle units are unaffected by this.
  • Herald of Slaanesh on a Steed is not in this codex and will have to be taken from the Index. The Keeper of Secrets has a new ability – Mesmerizing Aura: your opponent must subtract -1 from hit roll in the Fight phase that target him.
  • The range of the Flamers‘ Flickering Flames has gone up to 12″ from 8″. Exalted Flamers Blue Fire is now Heavy 3 instead of Heavy D3. His Pink Fire has gone from a 8″ range to 12″.
