9th Edition is launching with points changes across the board for Space Marines. From wargear to unit options, check out what’s gone up and down.
We first saw a rumored spreadsheet of points adjustments for wargear in 9th Edition. Now, a list of Space Marine base unit costs has emerged from War of Sigmar! We’ve gathered them all here for you so sit back and grab a calculator to see how much your current list will cost with the new edition.
Earlier Wargear Points Adjusted
This spreadsheet is one we’ve covered earlier with some rumors of further points adjustments in 9th Edition. It might be helpful to skim through some of these wargear options to get an idea of just how much some wargear is getting discounted/increasing.
While base points might be going up, it looks like largely, the wargear on weapons is taking a drastic downturn. Some weapon options are now completely free for units. The Aggressor’s Bolt Storm Gauntlets are 0pts now. Eliminator’s Bolt Sniper Rifle has also gone down to 0pts (even though Eliminators now cost 28pts per model).
WHEW! Hellblasters got a major discount with their Heavy Plasma Incinerator now costing 0pts. Meanwhile, the widely popular Heavy Bolter (specifically on Vehicles) has gone up another 5 pts now to 15.
In this chart, we can see the other Hellblaster wargear costing 0pts. Storm Bolters have also gone up another pt now costing 3pts.

After looking at the HQs, it seems like GW has seen the power of a mobile character. HQs with Jump Packs have gone up another +12-15 pts (for Captains & Chaplains). Once we get the full picture of points, we could see a fully kitted Smash Captain cost upward of 160-190 pts. Would they be worth it at that point?
Troops Choices
Scout Squad: +3pts
Tactical Squad: +3pts
Incursor Squad: +2pts
Infiltrator Squad: +2pts
Intercessor Squad: +3pts
Well, Troops Choices have gone up across the board. Poor Scout and Tactical Squads have also gotten more expensive which is something that we’re a little surprised about. Beyond that, Intercessors are going to cost a nice rounded 100 pts per five-man squad.
Elites
Aggressor Squad: +19pts
Ancient in Terminator Armour: +3pts
Apothecary: +5pts
Cataphractii Terminator Squad: +0
Centurion Assault Squad: +15pts

Venerable Dreadnought: +5pts
Aggressors and Invictor Warsuits look to have been hit the hardest for the Elites section. Those two increases are pretty heavy-handed. Although they were also popping up in 90% of Space Marine lists.
Fast Attack & Flyers

Assault Squad with Jump Packs: +2pts
Attack Bike Squad: +5pts
Bike Squad: +4pts
Inceptor Squad: +15pts

Repulsor Executioner: +35pts
Stalker: +20pts
Thunderfire Cannon: +30pts
– Techmarine Gunner: +19pts
Vindicator: +5pts
Whirlwind: +60pts
Whew. Some options in here went as far up as +60pts. Just about everything in the Heavy Support list got a heavy increase. With that said, it’s important to look at the unit’s wargear because a majority of weapons (not just in the Heavy Support section) have been reduced to 0pts or got a heavy reduction. Although things may seem more expensive, there’s a chance they’ve actually dropped a couple of points.
Dedicated Transports
Drop Pod: +2pts
Impulsor: +25pts
Land Speeder Storm: -15pts
Razorback: +10pts
Repulsor: +15pts
Rhino: +10pts
The Land Speeder Storm made it out the best of all the Transports. The Impulsor looks to have taken the biggest nerf with the base cost going up as well as wargear (according to War of Sigmar).
As we’ve said, you should definitely go through the wargear listing and compare it with the price changes for units in the Space marine faction if you want to get the best idea of where your list will sit in the new Edition.

Now that we’ve covered the generic Space Marine units, what are your thoughts on the adjustments? Have units gotten even more expensive than you were expecting? Are Smash Captains going to be too expensive to run three of in a list?
