Here are the latest full articles on the current best armies in the meta right now for Warhammer 40k, along with the recent updates from Games Workshop.
10th Edition Warhammer 40k Munitorium Field Manual LATEST
Maybe just as important as the points, GW said they will now only be doing 40k Balance Dataslate updates every other quarter (originally, they said every quarter), and points change every quarter. This means we won’t see the next Dataslate until Q3 of 2024, but the points changes should really shake the game up for now!
Games Workshop’s new quarterly points changes aren’t a strict schedule, but if you were hoping for changes beyond points for your army, you need to wait until Q3. However, some pretty big points changed, and the new codexes have been updated as well.
Let’s start with the Munitorum Field Manual 40k points change winners and losers, and then get into the specifics.
Buffed Armies
- Adeptus Custodes: They basically received a decrease in points for almost every single unit in the codex.
- Adeptus Mechanicus: They received decreases for about eight units and no increases.
- Chaos Space Marines: The Dataslate hit them pretty hard, but they exclusively received points drops this time.
- Dark Angels: Got four point decreases this time around
- Genestealer Cults: Some key units go down in points.
- Leagues of Votann: Very small decreases to Warriors and Uthar.
- Orks: Like Custodes, they received huge point decreases across the board, with a couple of increases, but the decreases far outweigh them.
- Space Marines: They get a bunch of decreases and a few increases, but the changes should help.
- Space Wolves: They received two decreases.
- Thousand Sons: They get seven decreases to units, but two enhancements go up in points.
- Tyranids: Get deductions across the board, but Gargoyles are going up in points again.
- World Eaters: The Dataslate changes really hit them hard, but they are getting a pretty big point buff this time.
NERFED Armies
- Adepta Sororitas: This is almost not a NERF, as they get four decreases, but the five points increases outweigh that
- Aeldari: They get some decreases as well, but a lot of popular units are getting increased.
- Agents of the Imperium: The agents get only point increases this time.
- Astra Militarum: It’s hard to call this a straight-up NERF, but a lot of very popular units are increasing while less-used units are decreasing.
- Black Templars: They are getting six increases and no decreases. So, it’s a pretty straightforward NERF.
- Blood Angels: Like the Astra Militarum, they are getting key NERFS and a couple of units cheaper to increase their viability.
- Grey Knights: Their increases outweigh their decreases, at least to us.
- Necrons: Some units get decreased, but the majority are getting big increases.
40k Munitorium Field Manual Points Changes Update
Alright, buckle up because it’s that time again – the Munitorium Field Manual has dropped some fresh points changes, and things are about to get interesting! These are the latest 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Munitorum Field Manual points changes that are legal for play right now!
Adepta Sororitas Point Changes
Crusaders have been taken in units of two for a long time for easy objectives, so it is no surprise to see the change. Then, Flagellants, the Triumph, Assassins, and the Blade all get NERFS.
However, they are offset by decreases in units that don’t get used too much, but we wish they would do something more than just decrease the points of Sacresants once again. They need more power or durability.
Old Points
Adeptus Custodes Points Updates
Well, their codex points were wild, so it’s good to see them get decreases across the board.
Old Index Points
Adeptus Mechanicus Points
Points costs across the Adeptus Mechanicus have dropped – but the Warhammer Studio are also testing a selection of rules changes to launch with the next Balance Dataslate that should tune up the Machine Cult’s legions and give them a shot in the cybernetic arm.
They haven’t been doing very well this edition, so it’s nice to see some buffs. GW also said they might make changes in the Dataslate next quarter to give them more power. Notably, Dunecrawlers and Kastelans go down 20 points per model.
Old Points
Aeldari Points Update
They got some increases in units that are doing really well, and a decrease in units most people aren’t taking.
Agents of The Imperium
All of these agents units have been super useful for all Imperial armies, so the changes are not a huge surprise.
Astra Militarum Points
It’s hard to call this a straight-up NERF, but a lot of very popular units are increasing while less-used units are decreasing.
Old Points
Black Templars Points Updates
This is their second change in a row, and it hit the army with only NERFS.
Old Points
Blood Angels Points
They are getting key NERFS and a couple of units cheaper to increase their viability.
Chaos Daemons Points
Chaos Knights Points
Chaos Space Marines Points: (updated May 22, 2024 when Codex Released)
- Abaddon is actually 15 points cheaper than the last update, so don’t be fooled by the red. It’s probably because he lost some things in the datasheet, and these points are all from their new codex book.
- The Accursed Cultists received some changes in the codex but dropped significantly in points here (and now seem more interesting to take in more armies).
- Most of the characters (the Chaos Lord is actually five points cheaper than the previous changes, even though it’s red) also got a decrease, but they were already quite strong. Vashtorr stays the same even though it’s in green.
- Next, the Bikers get another five-point reduction, and at only 70 points for three, they are starting to look quite inviting (amazing, actually).
- Chosen is another unit that is getting a reduction from last time, even though it is in red (five points).
- Legionaries cost the same as before, so don’t be fooled by the green, but they are still a very strong unit.
- The Warp Talons stay at 110 points, but they seem like one of the better units from the codex and, in the right hands, might prove to be super strong.
- The Fellgor Beastmen went down by ten points, which is nice, but we’re still not sure who will run them. Might that be enough?
- Lastly, the Forgefiend went down by ten points (even though it’s in red), which is nice for a good shooting unit in general. The Maulerfiend lost most re-rolls but went down another ten points after getting a decrease in the last changes.
Old Points
Dark Angels Points
Terminators get a lot cheaper, and so does the Lion (50 points)!
10th Edition 40k Dataslate Death Guard Points
One small change to Hellbrutes this time, nothing too wild.
Old Points
Deathwatch Points
Unchanged.
Drukhari Points
Genestealer Cults Points
The units that were decreased aren’t on many top lists, so this should help them make more lists.
Old Points
Grey Knights Points Changes For 10th Edition 40k
The characters went up along with the Dreadknight, but the more basic squads went down. This means GW wants more units in those armies and fewer heroes.
Old Points
Imperial Knights Points
Leagues of Votann Points
Warriors and Uthar go down in points, so get those foot sloggers out of the box and get them back on the field!
Old Points
Necrons Points
Among the most important changes are points adjustments to slow the inexorable advance of the Necrons. Combos frequently appearing in competitive play have been tuned, with increases for C’tan Shards, several varieties of Cryptek – including Illuminor Szeras himself – and Immortals. Units which have seen less play are enjoying slight discounts, particularly those common to Detachments outside of the Hypercrypt Legion and Canoptek Court.
The units that are dominating went up pretty decently in points, and their win rate should be adjusted.
10th Edition 40k Orks Points
It looks like the age of the Greenskins might be upon us! They got some pretty wild decreases, but the poor Stompa still sits at 800 points…
Old Points
Space Marines Points
Space Marines have seen a number of internal balance changes, with more tweaks to specific Chapters.
They mainly get decreases, and GW really likes to keep them at the 50ish % win rate, so this should keep them around there.
Old Points
Space Wolves Points
They have been struggling, but these aren’t huge changes, but they might be enough to lift them up.
Old Points
Tau Points
Thousand Sons Points
A lot of units underperforming are getting big decreases. Only the enhancements go up, but they have been quite strong, so it makes sense.
Old Points
Tyranids Points
Gargoyles were taken in pretty much every list, so it makes sense to see them go up in points. Then, there have been a lot of underperforming units, so it makes sense they get a decrease.
Old Points
World Eaters Points
They were hit super hard with the last Dataslate. This time, Jakhals, Terminators, and Berzerkers all go down in points. Jakhals were on almost every list, but other than that, none of the decreased units saw almost any play at all. Let’s hope this moves them back into the meta.

All the latest 10th Edition 40k Munitorium Field Manual points changes are available here! Don’t forget GW is changing things up and will only update the 40k Balance Dataslate every other quarter. That means we’ll have to wait until Q3 of 2024 for the next update. But hey, at least the current Munitorum Field Manual 40k points changes are going definitely make things spicy for sure!
