40k Pariah Army Box Set: What Could The Imperium Get?

sister of battle wal hor imageThe way it’s looking, there might be another Box Set for Psychic Awakening coming for Pariah, and we have some ideas on what the Imperium might get!

Psychic Awakening’s Pariah is looking to have Necrons going up against a motley crew of Imperial soldiers. From Sisters to Ultramarines, and an Inquisitor, here’s what might be on the way in the weeks ahead.

40k Pariah Army Box Set: RUMORS

Blood of the Phoenix

gazghkull ragnar box set saga of the beastFor the past releases of Psychic Awakening, any time we’ve seen two characters revealed, there’s always been a Box Set that followed including them both. We saw this with Jain Zar and Drazhar in Blood of the Phoenix as well as Rangar and Ghazghkull in Prophecy of the Wolf.

On the flip side, any time we’ve seen a single model released (i.e Mephiston in Blood of Baal, Lazarus in Ritual of the Damned), they’ve only come in their own mini-box set.

Multiple Characters Spotted For Pariah

sisters of battle pariah ephrael stern and bodyguardIn the last batch of online GW previews, we’ve seen a new Illuminor Szeras model and Inquisitor Draxus hit the spotlight. We know that Ephrael Stern and her sidekick are also on the way, and in the latest video teaser for the expansion, we can see everyone standing with some Ultramarines and Sisters in the background. There are also several Knights, but it is doubtful a Knight would pop up in a Box Set like this (or would it?)…

It’s also doubtful that we would see a Box Set with a whopping four characters inside. However, the requirements for a Box Set has definitely been met using the standards for past PA releases from GW.

Chances are Ephrael Stern and the Pariah will most likely be a two-person box set that is more from the Black Library side of things as they were their characters from 20 years ago. This would make a lot of sense since we just saw another two-person character box set from them as well:

What Could the Imperial Half of the Box Set Look Like?

prophecy of the wolfWe already used the Orks for the Necron-half of the price matchup. So now, let’s talk about what we might see the Imperial side of this rumored Box Set get.

psychic awakening pariahTo get a better idea of what we could see, we should go to the Pariah teaser video. Here, we’ve got Draxus, Ephrael and Kyganil, some Ultramarines, Sisters, and two Knights. Obviously, we have to think within reason here so we doubt we’ll see two Knights in the Box Set. That would make things really one-sided, wouldn’t it?  Plus, we’ve already covered how we might see Ephrael and the Pariah drop. Does that leave Draxus, some Sisters, and some Ultras perhaps?

  • Inquisitor Draxus: $35? (we’re seeing Primaris characters go for that much )
  • 5-man Intercessor Squad: $35 We say 5-man because that’s exactly how many we can see that are standing to the right.
  • 10-man Battle Sisters Squad: $60 You can see that there are just over 5 Sisters standing to the left which makes us think we’ll see a full squad.

Total Value: $130

This is a little on the high-end for value of what we’ve seen in previous Box Sets. However, it’s not totally out of reason. Plus, the fact that Inquisitors and Sisters are both cheap units, it would warrant there being more models on that faction’s side (to make things even for fans that play out of the box). The big question might be Why would GW pack soup in a Box Set like that, especially with more Sisters just after their full release?

Well, if we had to take a guess, GW might put Sisters in a Box Set to have more players dip their toe into the faction. Once they have a squad, it might add incentive to grab some HQs and two more Troops for a cheap Imperial Battalion. The same could be said for the five Primaris dudes that might be coming as well. As for the Inquisitor, she can be taken by any Imperial faction basically with no penalty. Plus, she’s got a dragon pet which means she’s got that cool appeal.

With this now on the table, what do you think we might see inside the Imperial side of a rumored Box Set? Do you think it’s likely that GW would pack soup into a bundle like that? What other reason would their appearance in a teaser video be if they weren’t in a Box Set (aside from rules support)?
