Just like Blood of the Phoenix, and Prophecy of the Wolf before them, the rumor is that Psychic Awakening Pariah will be getting a 40k box set as well…
Since all of these Psychic Awakening releases have started, we’ve seen Box Sets from time to time accompanying some of the book releases. They’ve been a little random at times, but so far there seems to be two patterns…
Psychic Awakening Pariah: Box Set RUMORS
For the past releases of Psychic Awakening, any time we’ve seen two characters revealed, there’s always been a Box Set that followed including them both. We saw this with Jain Zar and Drazhar in Blood of the Phoenix as well as Rangar and Ghazghkull in Prophecy of the Wolf.
On the flip side, any time we’ve seen a single model released (i.e Mephiston in Blood of Baal, Lazarus in Ritual of the Damned), they’ve only come in their own mini-box set.
Multiple Characters Spotted For Pariah
In the last batch of online GW previews, we’ve seen a new Illuminor Szeras model and Inquisitor Draxus hit the spotlight. We know that Ephrael Stern and her sidekick are also on the way, and in the latest video teaser for the expansion, we can see everyone standing with some Ultramarines and Sisters in the background. There are also several Knights, but it is doubtful a Knight would pop up in a Box Set like this (or would it?)…
It’s doubtful that we would see a Box Set with a whopping four characters inside. However, the requirements for a Box Set has definitely been met using the standards for past PA releases from GW.
Plus chances are Ephrael Stern and the Pariah will most likely be a two-person box set that is more from the Black Library side of things as they were their characters from 20 years ago. This would make a lot of sense since we just saw another two-person character box set from them as well:
What Could Necrons Get Inside a Psychic Awakening Pariah Box Set?
Let’s take a look at what Necron units we might see inside a new Box Set if Pariah follows the pattern of the two previous box set releases.
If we’re looking for realistic results, we can’t just pull anything out of thin air. Because of that, we’ll be going off of GW’s latest Box Set to drop: Prophecy of the Wolf.
Overall, Szeras looks pretty chunky now and might even share the same base size as the bigger Ghazghkull Thrakka. Because of that close size comparison, we might see Necrons get something similar in secondary units as to what the Orks got. What do we mean by that?
Well, in the Ork half of the Box Set, the units totaled:
- 5x Nobz $30
- 3x Meganobz $63
Total: $93
With Szeras taken care of (essentially replacing Ghazghkull), we need to look at some potential units around the same price point as the Orks.
Potential Secondary Units
To start, Praetorians would be a good option because they currently go for $40/unit. Plus, we haven’t seen them pop up in any kind of bundle deal for a while now. Wraiths, Immortals, and Lychguard were all a part of the Forge Bane Box Set release as well, which might mean they’re off the menu.
Another solid option would be some Flayed Ones. Currently, these are Finecast and go for $45/unit. However, if these guys got an update in plastic, it would make sense that these would jump up a bit in price.
That means that in total, these kits come out to be $85 + any price hike that naturally comes in a model being moved to plastic.
There have also been rumors circulating through the web that said Flayed Ones would be getting moved to a plastic for Pariah as well. Coming from Sete on B&C, he had this to say:
Disclaimer:
The following are rumours so apply salt accordingly.
- September a new edition will drop and Necrons will be the new bad guys in the block.
- Some finecast units might get redone, I think the flayers were brought up.
- There are rumours of a new Necron codex as well for 9th.
- A new edition cycle will begin, so ya know what to expect, we have been trough this for a few times now.
Other Good Options
Throwing some other decently reasonable options out there, we could see Destroyers hit the Box Set just because they’re a super-utility unit in the game. They’re fast, can lay down some firepower, and have Stratagem support. On the other hand, we could even see the old Necron pariah’s come back. We know Szeras has had a long campaign with experimenting with unlucky humans that get captured. Plus, now that Szeras is back and better than ever, why should that mean that his project ended and these guys are just nowhere to be found? As a final cherry on top, the name of the supplement is literally PARIAH!
As for the Imperial side of the potential Box Set, we’ll have to save for a later date. But Necrons definitely have a few solid options that are totally within reason to see make their debut in Psychic Awakening: Pariah.
What do you think the Necrons could get? What about the Imperial side?
