Contents List, Pricing, & Release Date
In White Dwarf 509, Games Workshop dropped the Slaughter Talon, a Chaos Knights Combat Patrol for Warhammer 40k. But there’s a catch—unlike most combat patrols, this one doesn’t come in a neat, discounted box (well, at least not yet). Then, GW officially dropped the rules on WHC for free download.
The new 2025 Chaos Knights Combat Patrol has a release date of February 22nd, 2025 (when WD 509 hit the shelves). Here is a contents list of the new Warhammer 40k Chaos Knights Combat Patrol:

Chaos Knights 40k Combat Patrol Combat Patrol Review
Here, we’ll look at how much it will cost you to actually build this Combat Patrol and then break down whether GW might release it as a stand-alone box set.
Models | Unit Name | Value |
2 | War Dog Brigands | $94.50 |
Chaos Knights Combat Patrol | ||
Total MSRP: | $94.50 |
Either way you look at it, this is going to be the cheapest Combat Patrol out there, tied with Imperial Knights! The other boxes all retail for $170, so if you want to play this Combat Patrol, all you have to do is pick up a box of War Dogs or just take yours out of the box from your current Chaos Knights army! It’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask us!

Is it Worth It?
Well, if you already play Knights, you’re going to have two War Dogs, and it will be nice to also have some CP rules to play with. If you don’t have the minis already, it will be the cheapest combat Patrol out there and a great starting point for a Chaos Knights 40k army; using them in more than one game mode would be fun. This looks like a fun addition and is super worth it! Even if you never build a full Knight army, they can be allied and are super fun to paint!
How Many Points Is This?
So, you’re wondering how many points the Chaos Knights Combat Patrol box racks up, eh? Well, in Warhammer 40k 10th edition, this box hits with about 300 points. But, as you know, the tides of the Grimdark universe are ever-shifting, and with the latest points updates, that number could quickly fluctuate. One minute, you’re ready to burn down the galaxy, and the next, you’re recalculating your list because the points gods have decided to have some fun.

Chaos Knights Combat Patrol Rules
Let’s talk shop: Chaos Knights in Combat Patrol format are all about going fast, hitting hard, and looking good doing it. The Slaughter Talon rules bring a refreshingly brutal take on movement and melee that rewards you for picking your fights wisely—and punishing anything that blinks at you wrong.
Start with Infernal Rage. It’s a classic “hit harder” button, but with flavor. Pop it in the Fight phase to crank your melee weapons’ AP and dish out more attacks. If you’re bringing a Slaughterclaw to the party (and you should be), this turns your War Dog into a blender on legs. Great for clearing objectives or just sending a message.
Then there’s Hunter’s Stride—sneaky good. The movement phase rolls around, and now your War Dog can ghost through enemy models like they’re not even there. Desperate Escape tests? Nah. That’s for someone else. It’s perfect when your opponent tries to box you in or when you need to juke past a screen to grab something juicy.
Lunging Strike is pure chef’s kiss. Fell Back? No problem. Charge right back in, but this time with intent. It keeps your units in the fight when lesser machines would be stuck licking their wounds.
Couple these tricks with the Hunter Pack’s core ability, which lets you pick a War Dog each turn for a tasty bonus, and you’ve got a small but powerful force that thrives on picking the battlefield apart. Don’t sleep on Ravening Onslaught either. Target priority is the name of the game, and this secondary objective rewards you for keeping your eye on the prize.
What to Buy Next?
At this point, you’ll want some more Armigers to buff your forces up, and then go for the fun stuff, the big knights! You don’t have a ton of points with this Combat Patrol, so you still need a lot of points, and big knights are fun. So go wild and grab at least two!
Final Thoughts on the Chaos Knights Combat Patrol
Alright, so what have we learned here, team?
The Chaos Knights Combat Patrol might not come in a shiny box (yet), but it’s still punching way above its weight class for value. Two War Dogs, some spicy new rules from White Dwarf 509, and a build-it-yourself approach that feels very on brand for Chaos—cheap, fast, and deadly. Kind of like a War Dog on Hunter’s Stride, honestly.
If you’re already knee-deep in Knights, this is just a fun new way to field what you already own. And if you’re new to the party, it’s the most wallet-friendly ticket to stompy mech mayhem we’ve seen in a while. Just don’t blame us when you “accidentally” end up with a full Lance and start naming them like pets.
