Games Workshop just put up a new web bundle with an exclusive formation in it for all you tread-heads. Is it time to defend Cadia or destroy it?

The Hammerblow Battlegroup just appeared on Games Workshop’s site for 2017, and comes with an exclusive formation!

Battlegroup Hammerblow $749

WEBSTORE EXCLUSIVE

battlegroup hammerblow

Appropriately named for their intensely aggressive tactics on Agrellan, Battlegroup Hammerblow were commanded by Colonel Schwarznek – a name associated with a desire for carnage. The Scout Sentinels roamed ahead of their comrades, calling in airborne Scion support at the the first hint of enemy presence. Once the Tau were engaged, the Hammerblow’s collective armoured might poured fire and hate in massive quantities onto the battlefield, damaging the Empire’s advance enough to justify their attrition.

This huge bundle brings you an immediate collection of the Astra Militarum’s finest! You’ll receive a huge number of miniatures – two Cadian Command Squads, two sets of Cadian Shock Troops, three Sentinels, two sets of Militarum Tempestus Scions, three Leman Russ’, four Chimeras, a Valkyrie and a Baneblade! Armour, air support and troops in one package. Includes web exclusive rules*!

*rules are in English only.

Now checkout the formation itself from the Games Workshop listing:

It appears to read as follows:

  • Formation: The models included with the bundle.
  • Restrictions: All Infantry & Command Squads must be given Chimera Transports, and the Infantry Platoons must consist of 1-3 Infantry Squads and one Command Squad.
  • Special Rule: Advance & Hold: All Infantry Units in the Battlegroup have Objective Secured and Stubborn? USRs (More Text Appears Illegible)
  • Special Rule: Close Range Fire Support: All Weapons Fire by the Baneblade and Leman Russ Tanks have the Twin Linked Special Rule if within 12″ of another unit in this formation?
  • Special Rule: Rapid Response: One unit of Scions must begin the game embarked on the Valkyrie. The rule goes to to appear to say that you do not need to make reserve rolls for it, and it can just arrive from reserve (including first turn) if paced within 12″ of the battlegroup’s Scout Sentinel Squadron.

So all in all a very neat little formation that should allow guard players to have some fun with their tanks and mans on the tabletop, and fly in some reserves as needed too!

Obviously the print is so small there may be some slight inconsistencies with the rules here. If you do plan on getting this bundle deal please consider sending us a pic of the formation to share!

What You Need To Know About Gathering Storm: The Fall of Cadia:

  • Abaddon is leading the 13th Black Crusade into the Cadia Gate once again.
  • GW has confirmed these Sister models are plastic, with Celestine being the first official plastic Sister:
  • The three “new” Characters are: Inquisitor Greyfax, Belisarius Cawl (Ad Mech), and Celestine the Living Saint!
  • There are datasheets in the new book for them and Belisarius was said to be T6 with 5 wounds. The opposite page from him also looked to have the rules for Canticles which may foreshadow his exact faction. Also apparently he has been running around for 10,000 years “doing something that will be revealed in this book”.
  • The “best Warhammer 40,000 story is starting in 2017, and will go on into 2018 and beyond.”
