More Reasons Why A White Scars Codex May Be Coming Soon!

Rumor says the new Space Marine chapter codex may be for the White Scars. Here are some reasons why that seems to make sense!

We wrote an editorial back in March that made some surprising comparisons between the last four years of Stormcasts, and the last two years of Primaris Space Marines.  How do those similarities stack up when you throw White Scars rumors in the mix? Let’s find out!

According to an industry insider, the White Scars are the next Chapter to get a Codex. Some of you might have heard that it was the Imperial Fists, but there’s been no such mention of their name at least to us.

  • White Scars To Get Chapter Book
  • Arrival Late Summer Early Fall
  • Combined Release With New Primaris Models

Now you might have heard in the past that GW has tested some of their ideas for 40k on concepts in Age of Sigmar. Check out what we’ve noticed.

Stormcast Models Hit Age of Sigmar

AoS General's Handbook Art Wal Hor

When Age of Sigmar hit the Stormcast Eternals appeared and were quickly dubbed “SigMarines”.  They are better all around fighters than what the former Empire from Warhammer Fantasy could offer. They are bigger, have more wounds, and hit harder. Sound familiar to what’s happening in 40k right now? Keep in mind that the Stormcasts were around a while before the first Primaris model was even spotted.

Two years later on the 40k side of things, “a better Marine” was introduced being called the Primaris. They are essentially the super soldier super soldiers lore-wise. They don’t have the problems that some Marines have, can go further, last longer, are stronger, and can take more of a beating than a normal Marine.

Did GW test the idea of a better, stronger super soldier in AoS first?

Palladors Vanguard

After about a year the Stormcast had some time to settle into AoS, GW released the “Vanguard” line. These were Stormcast Eternals geared towards intercepting the enemy and killing them ahead of the line.

Vanguard Raptors

Units like the Vanguard Raptors, Hunters, and Palladors were either mounted and fast or had ranged weapons to pick enemies off from afar.

Now, looking at 40k in 2019, we have the Vanguard Primaris. What do they do? Well, they intercept the enemy advancement by having the ability to infiltrate. Their rules and psychic powers are designed to cause as much disruption as they can before the rest of your force can arrive to help! Looking at the Vanguard Palladors below, they are fast mounted cavalry.

Next up we have been seeing all sorts of Rumor Engine pics for what could be anything from a new Space Marine Jetbike to even a Primaris hovercraft…

Which does seem to follow along with the “Beta AoS” to Primaris path to market that we have seen, right down to the fast mounted cavalry that we currently have no match for in Warhammer 40k.

These latest rumors also seem to fit this trend as well, plus have the added benefit of also being the primary order of battle for the White Scars Chapter of Space Marines.

  • A close-combat designed Primaris unit with different weapon options. (These could be the Terminators of Primaris units).
  • Some kind of Primaris Tank kit with different main turret options. (This could replace the Predator)
  • New Fast one-man vehicles similar to Bikes/Land Speeders.
  • A Primaris Medium Transport. (something cheap with a decent carrying capacity could work)
  • Small Primaris Flyer

Honestly, GW’s primaris releases seem to emulate EXACTLY what they have been doing for their Stormcasts for Age of Sigmar right down to the recent “Vanguard” release.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed that GW has been using Stormcast to test the popularity of potential Primaris concepts. However, it’s a pattern that we can draw connections between.

Should we look to see what Stormcast get to make guesses for what’s on the way for Primaris in the future? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
