Here’s all the rumored and confirmed new Necron rules for Illuminor Szeras and two new units that are coming in 9th Edition 40k.
Every day we seem to be seeing more and more info about the new psychic Awakening. Now we get to add the Illuminor Szeras datasheet to the list. We already saw how awesome his model is, now we get to see if his rules hold up.
Gathering everything we know on the final book, here is all of the confirmed content coming inside the final book of Psychic Awakening. If you were curious about what details have been shared, take a look at this.
GW Reveals Table of Contents for Psychic Awakening: Pariah
We’ve got a layout of the new book showcasing the Table of Contents. Overall, it looks like surprisingly, the Inquisition is what’s going to make the most of Pariah. While Szeras and Ephrael are still in the book (counting toward Necrons and Sisters of Battle), they’re only getting about two pages-worth of support.
Illuminor Szeras 40k Rules Datasheet
With the constant power increases in models, we’re sure he’ll do just fine, it will just depend on his points. It feels like a lot of things are waiting on that for 9th right now…
Let’s take a look at his rules that were just spotted on Imgur.
Points: 130 Character, Infantry, Cryptek
They really seem to be pushing his midrange, like they are with almost all of the new Necrons currently. His 8″ movement definitely allows him to get in the thick of things much faster and stay up with your faster units.
With 7 wounds and living metal, you would hope he’s also fairly survivable. Still, he has to get close to do his damage, but Necrons are pretty good at ferrying him to where he needs to be. His Eldritch lance only has an 18″ range but can theoretically do 18 wounds in one go. Realistically, he should get one or two shots through and do about 4-8 wounds on a big guy or tank. His short-range shows up again when getting in range of Psykers. He needs to be within 9″ to get his bubble of double trouble off.
His combat isn’t terrible, but it’s nothing insane either. With 4 attacks at d2 and s7 he can do some damage before even getting his leg attacks. 2 more attacks at s6 -2 are nothing to sneeze at either. But you really want to charge him into a small unit, or one nearly dead, to get the double augmentation off.
Overall he’s a solid character that follows the flavor of the Necrons and is great for buffing nearby units.
Let’s Drool Over His Model While We’re Here
Since Szeras has the keyword Cryptek it looks like the new Cryptothralls will shield him, and he will buff them back attack and stat-wise nicely when they are in range.
Take a look at the latest on these new units from our recent Indomitus rules breakdown.
If they are within 6″ of a Cryptek when they shoot or fight, you can change their WS/BS to a 3+ and they get more attacks as well!

What are your thoughts on the new Necron Character, and Cryptothralls? Does their Protection rule make Snipers less competitive against Necrons?
