You won’t believe what the top 3 40k Army Lists were at The Renegade Open GT over the weekend. Okay well maybe just two of them, but come see anyways.
For the last couple of weeks/ months, we’ve only seen Space Marines, Space Marines, and Space Marines dominate the top bracket of tournaments. However, it looks like a few factions are starting to get wise to all their tricks. Here are the top three armies that placed at the Renegade Open 40k GT
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
3rd Place: Slaanesh Daemons- Asa Carlson
With all these Slaanesh Daemons placing at the top you’d almost think you were playing AoS! But this player brought a total of four Keepers of Secrets with mixed spatterings of Daemonettes, Fiends, and Seekers to the table. Overall, this list worked off of target saturation bringing multiple big units that were very fast and brutal in melee.
Fiends were probably tasked with charging into things early on to tie them up and buy time for the Keepers of Secrets to close the gap. Once one or two would make it into combat, they could eat Space Marine gunlines alive. awesome job!
2nd Place: Chaos knights- Scott Pockat
Bringing two Super Heavy detachments, this list was loaded to the gills with Knights. Bringing three big boy Knights in the first Detachment, a Castigator and Rampager hit the table running up the board to get into combat and squish the enemy under-foot. For the Despoiler, it hung back and peppered enemy ranks with two gatling cannons.
As for the second Detachment, another Despoiler was brought bringing a Thermal Cannon on each arm to add a little ranged armor-piercing punch to the force. For leftover points, two squads of Wardogs were brought being loaded with a mixture of the new Forge World wargear.
Awesome job overall!
1st Place: Space Marines- Ryan Olson
Looking at this list, Ryan brought the McPick two Space Marine traits using an Iron hands Successor and giving them a free reroll per squad as well as a cover save outside of 12″. Taking a Brigade Detachment, he loaded up on Intercessors for excellent S4 firepower and Scouts to grab objectives early on.
To add a bit more forward backbone, three Warsuits with autocannons were seeded throughout the board to help pop medium armor and elite units. To back them up, Suppressors hung back with their autocannons and would pinpoint a target and unload. A Grav-geared Devastator Squad also hit the table to melt through enemy power armor and make full use of the hot new Grav Strat out of the Space Marine codex. These dudes were loaded into a Drop Pod to make sure they got the first hit. And lastly, two Thunderfire Cannons were brought for some non-LOS firepower as well as having the near-free ability to halve the movement of two enemy units a turn.
Great job coming in first and not being afraid to dump points into less popular battlefield roles in order to take a Brigade as a Space Marine player.
Overall, what do you think of these lists? Were you surprised to see an all Slaanesh Daemons make it to 3rd place?
