This Death of Hope Short Film is the Stuff of Warhammer Nightmares

death of hope 3The Death of Hope, a Horus Heresy short film that we’ve been seeing previews for just dropped its first part titled Anarchy Reigns. It’s the stuff of nightmares.

Coming from a single Warhammer 30k/40k fan on YouTube, Mark Louis Spark has created and produced every single part if this film. Pulling together inspiration of lore from the 1980s until now, he’s dropped the first episode of his series. Death of Hope: Anarchy Reigns. Diving into what it would look like to be a Loyalist held prisoner on a World Eaters/Word Bearers ship traveling through the Warp, it’s all extremely gruesome.

Before we jump into the latest, it’s important to note that we’ve actually been waiting for the first episode to drop for a while now. We’ve been seeing a few teaser trailers here and there with the last one being revealed December 2018. But if you’ve already seen the earlier work, take a look at the latest.

Everything on screen I’ve built from scratch. Characters environments etc, which is why it takes so dam long for me to make these but well worth it as it brings the universe to life. I’ve fleshed out the whole story so pans for the next two I’ve already got down. I’m still learning and plan to learn facial capture for part 2 and 3. 4 more years of this XD well see what happens.

death of hope 1The first scene opens up with a ship traveling through the warp. From apparitions, Bloodletters, and gored Ultramarines as trophies hung up around the ship, it really puts into perspective how Chaos rolls.

death of hope 2Moving into the ship, this film is basically just designed to make you shudder. The Loyalists have absolutely no way out of the ship. They’ve lost their wargear, they’re surrounded by Traitors, and they’re stuck inside a ship moving through the Warp. Basically, the Traitors use them as entertainment to pass the time. The film jumps into a dueling pit with a World Eater and Ultramarine fighting one on one in melee.

death of hope 7While all of this is going on, there’s an Ultramarine that previously lost a battle strung up by chains watching his brothers die.

death of hope 4The film then cuts to some Loyalists that are being held captive…One being a mother that’s been twisted and mutated by the Warp energies crying for her baby to wake up.

death of hope 6After seeing all of this and the Ultramarine eventually getting sliced apart by the World Eaters, more fighters are selected and brought out to the killing pits. This is where the short film ends.

There Will Be More Episodes!

death of hope 5After minutes of just watching people get tortured and killed, we’re left with a cliffhanger as to what will happen next. Things are looking dark for the Ultramarines but Bobby G might have something to say about it soon. Being that this film is done completely by one person, it’s pretty incredible. This is one of the cleanest films we’ve seen come from a fan and it’s already got the whole community wanting to see what happens next.

What do you think will happen in the next episode? Would you like to see an Ultramarine raiding party bust into the ship and wreck the Traitors?
