New Dark Angels Primaris Azrael Model Rumors & LATEST

azrael lore titleThere were some pretty solid rumors floating around about new Dark Angels and a Primaris Azrael model, and now we know they are true!

With all the rumors of a new edition and the focus on the Dark Angels vs. the Fallen, it would make sense for Azrael to get a new model after decades finally!

Especially considering we’ve seen Black Templars update most of their heroes, it would make sense for GW to follow suit with the Dark Angels.

Talking about Black Templars, there were rumors of a new Ancient model for them as well! So we’ll also look at that, but let’s start with the latest on Azrael and dive into the previous rumors in an attempt to divine more about the upcoming Space Marine releases…

RUMORS: New Dark Angels Primaris Azrael 40k Rules Datasheet: (December, 26th 2022)

This photato quality image is making the rounds on Facebook and Reddit, as well as forums like the B&C already.

Azrael DatasheetSo again, while there is a chance this is fake, the picture at the bottom is very compelling. Plus, one other thing to think about, what book is this in? They said Arks of Omen wouldn’t have matched play rules. So is this in the new Space Marines codex or possibly a new Dark Angels supplement?

It’s hard to say one hundred percent, but either way, it sure looks like a new supplement book of some kind.

Now, let’s compare it with the current datasheet for Azrael:

Azrael Datasheet

Changes From Firstborn Azrael to Primaris:

  • +1 wound
  • +1 attack
  • Sword of Secrets gets +1 strength and extra damage.

So, not too many changes, honestly, but with more strength, attacks, and damage, he should be a little more destructive than before, and an extra wound never hurt anyone!

He also obviously has the Primaris keyword now.

Either way, we’ll have to wait and see just how truthful these are, but it might be a little while until we see the new book this is from.  Maybe Games Workshop is planning on announcing a new Space Marines book soon (like at LVO perhaps)?

GW Reveals New Primaris Chapter Master Azrael Warhammer 40k Miniature: (December 25th, 2022)

Warhammer Community gifted the latest details on Christmas Morning 2022 about the new 40k Primaris Chapter Master Azrael.

Primaris Chapter Master Azrael Warhammer 40k Miniature

Abaddon and Vashtorr’s plan to destroy the Imperium has caught the Dark Angels in its jaws. Still recovering from crossing the Rubicon Primaris, Azrael has taken up the legendary Sword of Secrets and his master-crafted combi-plasma, The Lion’s Wrath.

It looks like the new model will be part of the upcoming Arks of Omen releases that hobbyists hope will lead us into the 10th Edition 40k in the summer of 2023.

Primaris Chapter Master Azrael Warhammer 40k Miniature 1

Azrael does not walk into battle alone – wherever he goes, he’s accompanied by a Watcher in the Dark. This mysterious being can carry either his sword’s scabbard or the Lion Helm into battle for him.*

We love a model with options, as for the first time, you can have Azrael wearing the Lion Helm without any converting! With a bit of luck, perhaps there are two watchers in the kit and not just one body with two arms holding the Lion Helm or the Sword of Secrets to make a full entourage for the Grand Master.

Scale-wise, he got his swole on when he jumped to Primaris, but the styling remains the same from the Original model from the 1990s.

We can keep the secret no longer! Azrael has crossed the Rubicon Primaris – check out his new miniature.

Only time will tell if the veteran Chapter Master Dante also gets the Primaris treatment.

Now that we know he’s real let’s look at the previous rumors for the new Grand Master Azrael, Chapter Master of the Dark Angels, below!

RUMORS: New Dark Angels Azrael Model

These Rumors come from Bolter & Chainsword via Valrak, which we summarize below, updated for grammar:

– Azraël should be redone during the 10th. My guess for the DA supplement.

– He mentioned a new Black Templar for Warhammer Day, but I may have misunderstood.

So, this model is old, like it could walk into a bar and buy a beer at this point. We’ve heard rumors for a long time now about a new model, and most seem just like people wishing.

However, with the new rumors of the Lion coming back and them fighting the Fallen, it would make the most sense now for a new model as well.

The rumors point toward him getting a rework near the beginning of 10th edition when the Dark Angels supplement comes out. As we said, if you look at Black Templars, it would make perfect sense for him to be redone, especially since he has an attendant (incoming Helbrecht-style memes).

Anyway, let’s see what he could look like.

Azrael

This is probably his most classic artwork, and GW loves to build models around previous artwork. So, it looks like they would most likely make him Primaris-sized and give him more attendants.

We’ve also seen a really cool conversion of him to Primaris-size.

What Primaris Azrael Could Look Like

This is an awesome conversion from the Wobbly Modelers. Josh Kinder Azrael is ready to lead his forces to victory. He is standing in a fresh set of decked-out Primaris armor, a slick cape, and his helmet is actually on!

Looks like he decided to let his helm bearer take the day off. Hopefully, this will inspire you in your painting endeavors with the new supplement on the way!

primaris azrael 1Using what looks to be Valdor’s Custodes Lion pelt, Azrael has it hung over his right shoulder. He is also rocking an eye-catching freehanded clock in gold and red.

primaris azrael 2Keeping the freehand paint job rolling. He’s even got his right boot custom engraved in a light-green highlight.

primaris azrael 3Of course, with his new bigger self, he can also carry around some much more potent plasma firepower. Rocking the power of a Hellblaster and Intercessor in one hand and a power sword in the other, he’s definitely someone you don’t want to see on the other side of the battlefield.

Now, let’s check out what the new Black Templars Model could look like.

A New Black Templar Model For Warhammer Day?

  • Ancient
  • Helbrecht
  • Grimaldus
  • Emperor’s Champion
  • Seneschal (Marshall)
  • Initiates (6 Marines with Intercessor CC equipment or auto bolt rifles)
  • 4 Neophytes (boltguns or chainswords)

This was the list of rumored models for the Black Templars release in 2021, and as you can see, one model is still left out. The Ancient right at the top!

Warhammer Day Exclusive Minis

It would make sense that the model would be the Warhammer Day mini for 2022! The one above was for 2021, so it would make sense to finally see that rumored ancient hit shelves for 2022! But, what would it look like?

How about… this?

Templar ancient

This art piece from Kev Walker is one of the most iconic out there, and it would make so much sense for them to base the model on! It’s just such an amazing piece of work that if we could get a mini based on this, we would be totally cool with it!

Here’s the most up-to-date list of new Games Workshop bits from preview models that we should watch out for. Click on the gallery above to see dozens of Rumor Engines with new models still to be revealed!
