The all-new Adepta Sororitas Novitiates kit is a team of 10 fresh-faced Sisters of Battle eager to prove themselves worthy of induction into the main ranks. Against them stands a T’au Pathfinder Squad which includes an upgrade sprue full of new options to kit out your team of 10, plus three drones.
If you missed any of our previous posts, can check out all the new Sisters’ rules from our articles below. Additionally, a couple of months ago, the crew at the Long War talked about the Sisters too, so check that out if you are interested in our breakdown.
Adepta Sororitas Army, Orders & Rites 9th Edition 40k Rules
Similar to previous books, the Sisters have some army-building guidelines and detachment abilities. You can only have one Canoness and one Missionary in each Adepta Sororitas detachment. Also, you can’t have more priests than Adepta Sororitas characters. Pretty standard, makes sense that you cant have a bunch of priests leading a force of soldiers into battle.
You’ll also get access to orders if you are Battle-forged, which are essentially the sub-factions with all of their associated rules, which we will go over below.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Orders
With each Order and whichever one you choose, you’ll get access to an exclusive Trait, Stratagem, and Relic that you can choose to use.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Rites
These are the Sacred Rites. After army formation and the mission is chosen, you can choose one of these rites to be active for the entire game, or you can choose to roll a d6 and get two random ones.
Of the 6, Hand of the Emperor, Divine Guidance, and The Passion are functionally the same as they were previously. Aegis of the Emperor seems pretty good getting an auto deny on a 5+ with an improved Shield of Faith ability.
Order of Our Martyred Lady Rules:
The Sisters of the Order of Our Martyred Lady are, as the name suggests, more than happy to throw themselves into situations where casualties are inevitable, so long as it serves the will of the Emperor. Warlords of the Order of Our Martyred Lady love to deliver violent justice to Mankind’s foes in the deadliest areas of the battlefield. Accordingly, they are often weathered and scarred individuals who can shrug off grievous wounds and generate greater divine power from their deeds.
First up, Our Martyred Lady is essentially the poster child of Sisters of Battle. This order gets bonuses as your troops die, gaining bonuses to hit and granting you additional Miracle Dice.
As for the other rules, the best is most likely the Warlord trait Shield Bearer. Being able to give your character -1 damage from attacks is huge. This trait also grants the bonus of Vengeance and Sacrifice Miracle dice to be auto 6s.
Order of the Valorous Heart Rules:
For the Sisters of the Order of the Valorous Heart, no amount of suffering is too great when endured in the Emperor’s name. Their legendary grit and determination are reflected in the grim, uncompromising manner in which they fight. It can be hard to pinpoint the enemy in the bloody chaos of a battlefield, but some among this Order’s ranks have learned to focus their faith, and they call on the Emperor to guide their aim.
Next, The Valorous Heart is a tanky-er order option. For all attacks with -1 or -2 AP you reduce the AP by one, making you get more armor saves. This order also grants your forces a 5+ save against mortal wounds, which will be great against some of the faction who rely on that chip damage.
Out of the other rules, the stratagem Blind Faith is probably the best, as you can use it to ignore moving and shooting negative modifiers in pretty much every game if you are running ranged support and have a very important turn.
Order of the Bloody Rose Rules:
Where the Order of the Valorous Heart is stoic, the Order of the Bloody Rose is incendiary. Blazing with the fire of their hatred towards the aliens, mutants, and heretics that threaten the Imperium, these Sisters dive into battle with an unquenchable desire to slaughter as many foes as they possibly can. Such is their righteous anger that Sisters of the Bloody Rose are wont to charge headlong into melee regardless of the odds, tearing away at the enemy with blades, hands, and whatever else they can get a hold of.
The Order of the Bloody Rose is much more aggressive. The best aspect here by far is the order wide bonus, Quick to Anger, which gives all units involved in a charge or heroic intervention get +1 attack and -1 AP on melee weapons for that turn. This order has the potential to make some sisters wail on opponents in melee.
Order of the Ebon Chalice Rules:
Get 50% Off & Free Shipping! Choose from hundreds of minis now!
As the first of the Orders to be created on Holy Terra, the Order of the Ebon Chalice traces its doctrines back to the Daughters of the Emperor, and the Sisters rigidly adhere to the foundations upon which the Adepta Sororitas were forged. So great is their prestige that all other Orders measure themselves by their example. One of the most iconic symbols of the Adepta Sororitas is the cleansing flame, and warriors of the Ebon Chalice carry it with them into battle with devastating results.
For the Order of the Ebon Chalice, the warlord trait is undoubtedly very strong. If the last edition taught us anything it’s that CP batteries are very good. Not only do you get to turn your warlord into a good ‘ol CP generator, but you also get an auto 6 miracle dice for the first battle round.
Both aspects are just generally always good.
Order of the Argent Shroud
The Order of the Argent Shroud is often deployed as the spearhead of an Imperial crusade, taking advantage of speed and boldness to drive a silver bolt through the heart of an enemy force. Their unwavering faith renders Battle Sisters of the Argent Shroud even more resilient against psychic assault than is typical for the Adepta Sororitas. As such, they are frequently able to disregard the cursed sorceries of the Archenemy’s minions.
The Order of the Argent Shroud has arguably the best order trait among the 6 offered. Deeds, Not Words allows you to move or advance models and have them count as stationary, meaning they can fire weapons at no penalty. The second portion allows each unit to reroll one hit or wound dice when resolving attacks. Both of these are great, this might be one of the more popular orders to play because of it.
Order of the Sacred Rose
Even among the din of a raging battlefield, the Order of the Sacred Rose is a calm and collected force of serenity who sing hymns of hope and salvation to the tune of roaring boltguns and blazing promethium. Divine judgment is the domain of the Emperor alone, and while few would consider themselves worthy of judging guilt on His behalf, many stand ready to mete out the inevitable punishment.
Lastly, Order of the Sacred Rose, which unfortunately is one of the weaker options, has its best portion in the stratagem. The Emporer’s Judgement allows you to have a shooting unit get additional hits on nat 6s for 1 CP. This can be fantastic if you run big squads with lots of shots, however other than that it may not be too amazing. Then again for 1 CP, you can’t really complain, it’s a pretty good option to have.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Custom Orders
You can create your own Order Minoris by selecting two convictions from a list of sixteen.
Looking at the first column of 5, there are some decent options. Guided by the Emperor’s Will is a copy of the second half of the Argent Shroud trait, which as we expressed above is extremely powerful. Shield of Aversion is decent, but it’s just a strictly weaker version of Martyred Lady’s trait.
Holy Wrath is a decent giving conditional AP in melee, but at that point, it may just be better to commit to Bloody Rose. In The Footsteps of Saints just allows you to be a successor chapter, pretty pointless and confusing, but hey, fluff!
Onto another set of 5, Raging Fervour is easily one of the best custom Order options. It makes most meltas automatically count as being in half range when shooting, making your shots do much more damage. This is a candidate for combining with Guided by the Emperor’s Will for a super melta focused range heavy list.
For the last set, none of them is super powerful, however, Unshakable Vengeance is interesting. being able to ignore negative modifiers can be pretty good. It just looks too situational to commit one of your traits for it.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Blessings
These blessings are made up of two parts: the first is a persistent effect that applies all battle long, while the second can only be temporarily activated by expending a Miracle die. Using a die with a particularly high number will extend the range at which the effect works, so make sure you weigh up your options against needing a particularly high roll elsewhere.
Essentially when you are mustering your army, you can upgrade any Cannoness or Palatine models by giving them one blessing. Blessings cost points and add power ranking to the model. Named characters can’t get a blessing and each model can only have one.
You use the Miraculous ability portion of the blessings in-game by discarding miracle dice during your command phase. You can only activate one miraculous ability per command phase and each ability once per game. You can discard additional dice to increase the range as shown above.
For the first half of Blessing options, Divine Deliverance has a strong constant ability, essentially giving you a 50-50 shot of turning off some aura abilities, which can be very strong. However, the Miraculous portion is mediocre, allowing you to at most lower a unit’s leadership by 3.
Word of the Emperor is obviously very combat-focused, with the consistent one forcing your enemy to fight last. The single-use is pretty crazy and will be perfect for taking out units with good invuln saves when you have some high AP attacks coming in.
As for the second half, Emperor’s Grace looks sweet. Healing d3 every turn can be awesome on a tanky-er unit. The miraculous ability is also good, preventing all reroll within its bubble. Depending on your opponent’s list, if they are trying to abuse as many re-rolls as possible, this can really shut off their value.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Hymns
A good option in this first set is Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude which GW had this to say about:
Alternatively, if you’re up against an army of infernal witches, such as Magnus the Red and his cadre, you might want some protection from their warp-spawned magics. Have your Priests lead a rousing Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude to drown them out.
If you need to keep a certain unit from psychic powers, then this is the way to go. It will remove all debuffs from them and keep them safe through your next turn. Meaning in a sense they could get protected from two powers.
A good option in this second set is Catechism of Repugnance which GW had this to say about:
Every Priest in your army can intone a hymn they know during your Command phase. If it’s inspiring, your army dances to the beat, earning some form of bonus. For example, want to make your bolt weapons sing a song of sweet death that will really get stuck in their head? Chant the Catechism of Repugnance.
Both of the bonuses of this are pretty sweet! Not having to roll a wound can make your normal bolters get through some seriously tough enemies much easier. On top of that, if you’re in half range, you will get to rapid-fire and have an additional AP. This means your bolters can dish out some serious damage.
40k Sisters of Battle 9th Edition Secondaries
As for the secondaries, Purge the Enemy seems the best but it is keyword Adeptus Minitorum, so be sure to keep that in mind. Essentially each round you can get 1 point for killing a unit with a bolter, 1 point for killing a unit with a melta, and 1 point for killing a unit with a flamer. If you manage all three in a turn you’ll get a bonus point for a total of 4. Depending on the size of enemy units, you should be able to do 2 of these each round and maybe the 3rd.
The ceiling for the objective is 20 points, but granted that’s nearly impossible, you’ll probably land closer to the 7-10 range, which is still good for a low-stress objective that you can naturally get through the game without changing your game pay too much.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Morvenn Vahl Datasheet
Upon her recent elevation to Abbess Sanctorum, Morvenn Vahl became the supreme commander of the Adepta Sororitas and guardian of the faith. Yet, unlike many of her predecessors, Morvenn Vahl continues to lead her sisters from the front lines. Clad in Purgator Mirabilis, a Paragon Warsuit of peerless quality, she takes the fight to heretics and the impious wherever they may be found.
Ever a warrior first and administrator second, Vahl strides the battlefields of the 41st Millennium clad in Purgator Mirabilis, the finest warsuit of its kind and an ancient relic restored to glory by the Fabricator General of Mars himself.
Her statline is pretty decent, especially when she sits there with 8 wounds, so she will be very durable but hard to target. Also with base S5 and T5 she will deal some decent damage and be pretty durable.
Not only does she have a 4+ Invuln, but she also gets a 4+ ignore for Mortals, meaning even things like Smite will be hard to ping off her wounds. On top of all of that, she halves the damage coming in from attacks, so she should be very durable on the battlefield.
Weapons
The suit itself plays host to a destructive missile launcher of the sort usually found only on much larger vehicles, while the Abbess strikes down her enemies with a gigantic relic power spear named the Lance of Illumination.
If you’re up against a big unit of infantry, the sweeping blow will give her ten attacks, hitting on 2’s, at Strength 5, -2 AP. Unfortunately, these only do one damage, but if you’re against things with 1 wound, this can dish out serious damage. When you need to cut through bigger stuff, she will be attacking 5 times at S 8, -3 AP, and D3. Also if you get lucky, you can get through some mortal wounds as well on 6’s.
Again, she has the option to mow down infantry or hit hard against the bigger stuff. This really gives her a ton of uses and lets her be taken in almost any army.
Auras
Despite her preference for getting stuck into the fiercest fights around, Morvenn Vahl is every bit the taciturn commander her position demands. Her fellow Battle Sisters rally around the glorious golden figure of her warsuit and fight with superhuman ferocity, knowing that their supreme commander is every bit as ready to lay down her life for the God-Emperor as they are.
If you’ve played against a reroll to hit and wound, you know how strong that really is! The second buff is cool because you only have to start that unit within the 6″ in the command phase. So you can start a unit close and then move away and still get the buffs.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Asestred Thurga and Agathae Dolan Datasheet
You may recognize Aestred Thurga from our most recent Battle Sister Bulletin. As the bearer of the banner known as the Auto-Tapestry of the Emperor’s Judgement, Aestred is held in great reverence by all of the Orders Militant. Adepta Sororitas in her presence all fight harder, inspired by the knowledge that the God-Emperor’s gaze is upon them – and that their deeds in battle will be recorded by the Hagiolater, Agathae Dolan, who accompanies her at all times.
Right out of the gate, these aren’t front-line brawlers, and that was clear since the preview of their models. Her Auto-Tapestry of the Emperor’s Judgement is insanely strong, getting all 6 sacred rites active in a bubble once a game for a turn is extremely good. Recount the Deeds of the Saints is also a nice targetted re-roll for one unit allowing a hit, a wound, and a damage dice to be rerolled.
Celestian Sacresants
While many members of the Celestians are trained to act as bodyguards for their Canoness and take to the field with the trusty boltgun at their side, others venture out into the galaxy on holy quests. When these Sacresants answer the call to war and return to their Order, they take up thick powered shields and heavy melee weapons to fight at the very forefront of the Adepta Sororitas’ campaigns.
This elite sisterhood is equipped with blessed, heretic-smiting halberds and maces, and they carry large shields for protection in the crucible of battle. Their ability to perform Heroic Interventions makes the Celestian Sacresants bodyguards without peer, helping you keep your prized Characters alive and your army fighting at optimum efficiency.
We were kinda hoping for two wounds because we are guessing the points cost for these will be fairly high. However the shield will give them a decent invuln, so hopefully, they will be able to survive the shooting phase regularly.

As for the weapon options, the Hallowed Mace seems like a winner, just simply because it deals D2 and they would be wounding T4 minis on a 3+. The Halberd can cut through armor much easier, but at only 2 attacks a pop and one damage, the Mace seems like it will be taken more often.
Dogmata
In a similar manner to a Chaplain of the Adeptus Astartes, a Dogmata is the personification of righteousness, leading her fellow Sororitas in war hymns as she advances stoically into battle. Yet, she’s more than just a spiritual exemplar. A Dogmata holds the power to condemn any Sister to join the Repentia – or, worse still, be consigned to a Mortifier – to seek atonement or redemption in death.
While all the sisters are dogmatic, a mini called the Dogmata really takes it to the next level!
Nothing too crazy on the datasheet, but her real benefit comes from the auras and commands she can issue. She can also use the Hymns of Battle which are pretty strong and will really buff up nearby units.
On top of using the Hymns, she also has a great ability for ObSec. Meaning you can either count as double for objectives or give Objective Secured to units without the rule.
Doubling the model count can really make it hard for the enemy to actually take any objectives from you!
Palatine
This senior Sororitas is an experienced battlefield commander, equally at home fighting alongside her Order’s Canoness or taking charge in her absence. In addition to offering the Adepta Sororitas a dedicated ‘fighty’ character, the Palatine’s zealous presence will bolster her Battle Sisters thanks to her Fury of the Righteous ability.
A 4+ Invulvnerable and reroll 1s to wounds aura are both fantastic, making this a decent HQ choice.
Paragon Warsuits
Piloted by the most worthy Sisters of the elite Celestians, Paragon Warsuits are deployed wherever the fighting is thickest. Their large, armoured bulk, coupled with surprising agility, allows them to duel with the most fearsome of enemies and emerge victorious. The finely wrought suits are a cut above regular-sized power armour, featuring many of the same systems but in a greatly more durable package.
They have a strong move, decent Strength, save, and Toughness. With only 4 wounds a pop, the damage reduction is really nice, hopefully with the 2+ save they will be able to survive some shooting. Overall, not a bad statline.
Commonly equipped with one of the holy trinity of Adepta Sororitas heavy weapons – the heavy bolter, Ministorum heavy flamer, and multi-melta – they also wield huge melee weapons crackling with power fields to tear through enemy armour like it was tissue paper.
The weapons are pretty much what we expected in terms of shooting. A set-up with a bunch of flamers will be able to roast all kinds of infantry though! Plus the CC weapons are both pretty sweet.
The Paragon Warblade will give you 5 attacks with S6, -3 AP, and 2 D. Which, if you’re taking on Marines a lot, this will tear through them! The Paragon War Mace gives you 4 attacks at S9, -2 AP, and D 3, but with a -1 to hit. If you need them to cut down vehicles and monsters, this is a perfect choice.
Castigator Battle Tank
The Adepta Sororitas, like us, are clearly fans of a good tracked tank and have decided it’s high time they had another. Being the pious sorts that they are, it’s called the Castigator, and there’s no doubt someone’s about to get severely reprimanded by that battle cannon on the turret.
As the new tank on the block, the Castigator is looking strong. The statline along with the main cannon looks devastating, bound to do tons of damage. However, that will only work out if you can protect it so it can continue to pump out shots!
Exorcist
The Exorcist got a slight nerf going to T7, but ultimately will still be a decent heavy support option. With a big amount of blast shots each turn thanks to the signature Conflageration Rockets it should still be great at clearing mobs of enemies.
40k Adepta Sororitas Sisters of Battle Stratagems Rules
Of this first set, Extremis Trigger Word looks the most promising. Deathballs can be a serious threat especially when you have a secret ace to pump out a ton of wounds that an opponent might not see coming. For just a single CP, getting a ton of extra attacks is well worth it, especially if the unit makes it into combat at full strength.
Of the second set, Fiery Oratory looks promising. For just 1 CP, getting an extra hymn auto-inspired seems very strong. That is assuming that priests are popular includes in lists.
The 3rd set brings with it Suffering and Sacrifice and although it might be situational, it can be back-breaking for your opponent’s plans. Forcing your opponents where they can and can’t direct attacks is always a huge advantage. They might want to attack your biggest threat, but unfortunately for them, you ran in a cheap character and now they can’t. Potentially very strong.
Next up, Saint in the Making is a straightforward extra warlord trait Stratagem, which is always a good option to have. If you find yourself having a hard time choosing between traits for a list, it might be worth trading a cp for the ability to take an extra one on a different character!
Defenders of the Faith being both a damage buff and a durability buff really makes this powerful. Not only will you be getting double shots at full range, but you will also be getting super tough.
GW had this to say about it in their preview:
As the rank and file of the Adepta Sororitas, it falls to Battle Sister squads to hold the battlefield’s vital points in the face of whatever the enemy might throw at them. Defenders of the Faith makes them incredibly tenacious when guarding an objective, with foes needing to press through a storm of boltgun fire only to find the Battle Sisters shrugging off wounds that would lay any normal human low.
From this set, Purity of Faith gives you access to a single CP 50-50 Psychic power deny, even if you don’t have anyone who can actually “Deny the Witch”, making Sisters lists have a little extra wiggle room since you’ll be less forced to take defensive psykers! (although you still might want to anyway)
GW had this to say about Faith & Fury in their preview:
Faith and Fury is an old friend, helping your Battle Sisters get the most out of the miracles they perform, and now it’s even cheaper than before at just 1CP. With your precious Miracle dice more in demand than ever, it pays to stretch each one as far as possible.
For one CP this is pretty sweet! You basically can guarantee for one dice and one CP, an automatic wound. Perfect if you need that Melta shot to go through!
Inviolate Sheildwall allows you to protect a single unit, and if you made that unit very large, this single CP stratagem can be game bending. This is what GW had to say about it:
When an even greater defensive wall is needed, look no further than the shield-carrying Celestian Sacresants and their Ecclesiarchal comrades in the Crusaders. Both blessed with powerful shields and trained to hold the line at any cost, using Inviolate Shieldwall will see bullets, bolts, and las blasts peel off them like rainwater.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Warlord Traits
Of the 6 Warlord traits, Righteous Rage and Pure of Will seem like great options. Rage is very selfish, but getting rerolls on hits and wounds in melee can be big, especially when you think about some of the bigger HQs that have been seen before.
Pure of Will is more generally good, allowing the Warlord to deny an extra psychic power can come in the clutch, and adding three to the rolls is even better! That being said, if the opponent doesn’t use the Psychic phase much, this is essentially wasted.
Speaking of Righteous Rage, Morven Vahl the new HQ gets it, making her an absolute beat-stick in melee.
40k Adepta Sororitas 9th Edition Relics
Onto the first section of relics! Notably, here Blade of Saint Ellynoir is identical to the old Blade of Admonition, as that now went over to crusade. If you took that in the Past, this new blade is your direct replacement.
A notable change in this section from the last book is Litanies of Faith is now once per battle round instead of once per turn. The Triptych of the Macharian Crusade also looks pretty decent. If you have a character you really want to keep alive, this relic will help you do that.
Iron Surplice has gotten strictly better and now gives +1 wound on top of the old version. 2+ save is nothing to scoff at, plus getting an extra wound now is great! This is another fantastic option if durability is your goal.
The Sigil Ecclesiasticus serves as a relic that simply makes your priest know one more and intone one more hymn, which is solid enough. Gaining exta support abilities and options is always great in the long run, that is if you think more than a handle full of hymns are good for your list.

Order of Our Martyred Lady:
There are definitely some interesting warlord traits, with one allowing your warlord to have two traits, but the second one has to be randomly generated, then on top of that, once your warlord dies, you get to pick a second warlord. Meaning your opponent has to kill both models to get the objective.
Martyr’s Strength can give your Warlord up to +2 Strength and Attacks, but they have to lose wounds first, so not really something easy to take advantage of.
The relics are pretty decent but nothing too insane. A couple of them are once per game, with pretty decent effects, one giving you a 2+ invuln save for a turn.
Stratagems
Death Before Disgrace is pretty sweet when you really need to capture an Objective, for one CP, it will come in handy! Rejoice the Fallen is really nice if you have a big unit with some special weapons, if they kill off all your non-special weapons, then blame, shoot back with Meltas and destroy some stuff!
That’s really it for the rules though, so if these are worth it for you, then you should pick it up. If not, then don’t worry about a few pages of rules!
Sisters Novitiates Squad 40k Rules Revealed!
Despite a relative lack of experience, Novitiates are just as accurate in shooting as their full-fledged Battle Sister comrades – but it’s in melee combat where they truly shine. By swapping their autoguns for Novitiate melee weapons, they can swing three times when charging, with a crucial extra point of Strength to put the hurt on the likes of Drukhari raiders, smaller Tyranid bioforms, and other light targets. Not only that, their charges become more reliable when fighting under a sacred banner.
They can get a decent amount of attacks, but with D1 and no Ap, it’s going to be hard for them to really cut through units, especially with that 4+ WS. Still, they could be a fun unit to have, let’s check out the full sheet:
The melee weapons do seem like the best choice here because they get 3 attacks if they charge at strength 4.
Overall there are a ton of new army-wide abilities in the new Sisters of Battle codex and they have some amazing faction rules, so don’t sleep on everything they can do!
