What’s Next From GW: May New Releases Roadmap

new gw previews adepticon LVO nova openDon’t miss the latest GW new releases roadmap for 2021 with even more previews on the way for Warhammer Fest 2021!

Love GW miniatures? The release roadmap is back and more loaded than ever. And we mean loaded, there are a ton of minis on the way, check it out!

Warhammer Fest 2021 Will Be a Week of GW Previews Online!

Warhammer Fest Online 3You can tune in to Warhammer Community from Monday 3rd May to see all of the reveals as they happen from 6 pm (BST) onwards, or catch them live on Twitch.

With two days dedicated to 40k, we hope that means there will be some seriously big reveals! Maybe the mystery day will finally be them revealing a new version of Battlefleet Gothic! Hey, we said it last time there was a mystery day, so why should we give up now?

Anyways, they do give us a good indication of what to actually expect (but come on Gothic).

Hidden in plain sight…

Don’t overlook the little banners in this graphic as they look to show some of what may be previewed

Warhammer Fest Online

First, it looks like Sisters will be getting even more reveals, or just kind of a roundup and when to expect the codex. Next up it looks like Orks will be getting a bunch of reveals, which we kind of expected but hopefully we can see more than just one or two minis this time. For AoS it looks like Stormcast and Vampires will be getting some attention as well, let’s hope that comes in the way of more new minis!

There also appears to be the Necromunda skull and one last icon that we can’t seem to make out above the “R” in Warhammer. Not to mention an Underworlds banner that might hint at the next new season.

2021 has been an interesting year so far, to say the least, but there are still plenty of new releases waiting to hit the shelves in May and beyond from GW. With that said, we’ll be going over what’s left to get released heading into the remainder of 2021.

RUMORS: Age of Sigmar New Edition in 2021!

age-of-sigmar-3.0We may be about due for another edition of Age of Sigmar in 2021, as we’re seeing the signs of a build-up to an edition change…

So what does it all mean? Well, it seems like we have a pretty solid repeating pattern from Games Workshop that is a semi-predictable release schedule (revenue stream) for both their major games. Read the whole article from last fall right here.

RUMORS: Plastic Maloghurst & New Horus Heresy Starter Set

MaloghurstWhen you compare this to other Forge World releases, it has a different feel than a lot of the resin minis. With all the small fiddly parts, like the chains, tubes, etc… Not exactly sure why, but everything about the mini just screams plastic. Also, in the article, they never say this is going to be actually from Forge World, which begs the question, could this mean a full kit from GW?

Could a New Starter Set be Coming?

mk iii marineThe previous starter set, Prospero Burns sold for $150 and came out in late 2016, nearly 5 years ago!

Considering they are basically two editions behind 40k in terms of rules, the timing is right to give the game a revamp. But some people love the idea that it’s a much different ruleset. Since the Legion dispatch is going to be an ongoing series, it would make sense for them to introduce a bunch of new minis, then release them all at the same time.

Industry insiders have been telling us here at Spikey Bits that something “very cool is on the horizon” for Horus Heresy, but with all the external factors affecting product releases worldwide, it’s hard to even say when we may see it.

Traditionally GW releases new big-box game starters for sci-fi lines around Black Friday in November, just like with the last two HH box sets. So perhaps all this is a build-up to either a summer or late fall release in 2021.

New 40k Skitarii Marshal For Ad Mech Revealed

skittari 1

Skitari MarshalSpecialised in directing their troops from the front line and leaving the important plans up to their masters, the Skitarii Marshal makes an excellent lieutenant for the Machine God’s armies and will ensure their Rangers make the most of every shot.

A new lord to buff troops might be one of many new tools to help push the faction into viability. Of course, if you like the lore or look of the faction that’s reason enough to play them.

Adeptus Mechanicus Codex

Skitarii codexThey haven’t just been building a new commander, either. The entire range has been given the once-over by its Tech-Priest masters, and soon you can find the fruits of their labour in the freshly updated Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus.

Along with the new Skitarii Marshal, the codex was also announced! As with each codex, new rules and models are expected to join the fray as the Skitarii and all their psychic awakening releases are updated into 9th Edition 4

Sisters of Battle Paragon Warsuit

paragon warsuitAs you can see, it looks like some Sisters of Battle may be in cahoots with the Grey Knights as they get their own version of a Dreadknight-like mech suit.

It appears there are multiple weapon options. This model has a Spear and heavy bolt rifle, we also saw a flamer option within the video that these were revealed in.

paragon warsuit 3Finally z model by its self, it’s wielding a multi melta. These are sure to hit hard and be decently durable. If they have anything in common with the Dreadknights, they were one of the better models in their lineup, so this might be pretty good on the tabletop.

Adepta Sororitas Dogmata is the Last New Model Monday

Adepta sororitas Dogmata 2In a similar manner to a Chaplain of the Adeptus Astartes, a Dogmata is the personification of righteousness, leading her fellow Sororitas in war hymns as she advances stoically into battle. Yet, she’s more than just a spiritual exemplar. A Dogmata holds the power to condemn any Sister to join the Repentia – or, worse still, be consigned to a Mortifier – to seek atonement or redemption in death.

While all the sisters are dogmatic, a mini called the Dogmata really takes it to the next level! The mini itself is fairly simple but very cool looking and should be a fun addition to the faction.

Adepta sororitas Dogmata 3On the battlefield, while a Dogmata is nearby, your Sisters of Battle will know that their every deed is being watched and judged. So they’ll perform whatever duty has been assigned to them with utmost determination and vigour. If you’re looking to get the most out of your Adepta Sororitas units, a Dogmata will be a crucial addition to your collection, so keep an eye out – she’s coming soon.

They don’t say the type of buffs she will give. But auras can never be bad and for a probably fairly cheap cost. Since they do say every task, we hope she’ll give buffs to multiple phases.

Or, she may let you use more miracle dice or something like that. Either way, she’s the last mini in the New Model Mondays. So, hopefully, they pick up the releases so we can keep seeing new minis!

Sisters of Battle Castigator Tank!

Castigator Battle Tank

The Adepta Sororitas, like us, are clearly fans of a good tracked tank and have decided it’s high time they had another. Being the pious sorts that they are, it’s called the Castigator, and there’s no doubt someone’s about to get severely reprimanded by that battle cannon on the turret.

That main Castigator Battlecannon is massive! As you may assume, this probably won’t be transporting troops, but dang will that thing pack a punch.

Castigator weapon optionsFans of the Immolator and Exorcist tanks will immediately feel right at home among the baroque stylings of the Castigator, with plenty of ornamental filigree adorning every surface – even the cannon barrel.

With at least one extra barrel option we think was called the Castigaor Autocannon, we can definitely expect the guns to act differently, perhaps a trade-off of less power for more shots or even range?

New Sisters of Battle Celestian Sacresants REVEALED!

New Sacresants

Celestian Sacresants

Like their Celestian sisters, Sacresants traditionally act as bodyguards to the heads of their Order, but they’re also tasked with another holy duty. Purging the impure and driving them from sites of sacred significance on the battlefield.

As a Celestian, each Sacresant is a highly skilled warrior, able to overcome many times her own number in battle. Sacresants wield a variety of blessed polearms and maces with which to smite the unclean and bear large, ornate shields to ward off the blows of their enemies. Protected in both body and spirit, Celestian Sacresants are the wall against which waves of heretics will break.

Looks like they’ll have an invuln with the shield and some high damage attacks. They mention they have serious staying power, so maybe multiple wounds are not out of the question. They don’t say anything else yet for the rules, but we assume they’ll have some teasers before long.

Aestred Thurga

Reliquant at ArmsThe Sister known as Aestred Thurga has dedicated her life to the protection of one relic above all others, the wonderfully named Auto-Tapestry of the Emperor’s Judgement. Weaved across the lifespans of five Canonesses and thrumming with the holy power of the Emperor’s gaze, the Auto-Tapestry (and its indomitable custodian) can be found in the records of some of the bloodiest battles the Adepta Sororitas have ever faced.

With this having been in so many battles, we imagine it will give quite the buff in-game. They also mention she is a master of combat, so she may be worth throwing in headfirst and bringing down some enemies while waving the banner high.

Reliquant at Arms 2The banner itself is resplendent with detail, topped with an ornate crown of iron and the skull of a devout, while its bearer strikes a more restrained figure wearing austere robes over her armour, and carrying the mighty Blade of Vigil.

The banner itself looks amazing and will be quite a fun painting challenge. All we’ll say about the face is we’re glad it looks to come with a helmet option- oof. Let’s just hope some of the recent heads are just prototypes and will be cleaned up by the time the release fully comes out…

More New 40k Orks & Beast Snaggas Revealed By GW!

ork waaghThe video took the unique art direction of exploring a cave painting while being narrated over by an Ork.

new beast snagga characterPart of the fun part if speculated over new models! One such potential model is this model that looks to be a Beast Snagga Painboy. There are also those augmented giant Squighogs…

beast snagga warbossFinally, there is a Beast Snagga Warboss! The real question is to what extent will this klan be supported? Will they herald in a new 9th edition codex?

There was also a fully confirmed model as well:

Squighog Boy

beast snagga orkWe’ll be finding out more about these boyz in the near future, so make sure you keep your eyes firmly trained on Warhammer Community and discover what you can do in the face of this new threat.

They don’t say too much about this model in the WHC post, but during the stream, the two hosts did mention this big boy was called a Squighog. A new CHONK-ier Squig who is sure to make a more fearsome cavalry than a standard Squig.

snagga ork

Their appreciation for ‘da old ways’, and their disregard for more complex Orky technology, leads many of the Snakebite clan to become Beast Snaggas, although their ilk can be found across the entire spectrum of Ork society.** Even a no-nonsense Goff can look at a squighog’s shockingly large teeth and figure out how best to apply them to some poor git’s face.

Exclusive GW Anniversary Miniatures For 2021:

Plus we even have two more miniatures coming in 2021 with the Store Anniversary models that were revealed in early January.

Both of these models will only be sold through Warhammer stores on their appointed anniversaries, but don’t worry about stock running out – if your store runs out, you can order the miniatures at the till and we’ll ship them right to the store for you to pick up.

Some hobbyists may see opening time disruptions due to the global situation, so your store’s celebration might be on a different day than it normally would. But don’t worry – everyone will still have their chance to get these celebratory models.

Necron anniversary mini

Kamoteph the Crooked is the new mini coming for the Necrons and 40k. He’s considered ancient even by Necron standards, he may not be fast but he sure is cunning! They also say that these will be basically unlimited stock. Even if they don’t have any in the store, as long as you order it in the first week, they’ll get you a mini, let’s hope that holds true.

AoS Anniversary mini

For AoS we’ll be getting a new Stormcast mini this year, Sylas Beastbane. If you ask us, the mini seems very appropriately named. He is armed with the new Questor Axe-hammer which allows him to strike an additional time against anyone he hits.

New AoS Soulblight Gravelords Coming

VampireThere was a shoddy picture of this new Soulblight Gravelords mini spotted recently. But GW decided that wasn’t good enough so they put out this high-quality photo before the big preview. While the Vampires have a different feel to them, we’re sure you could use both in your army and no one would say anything. Next, let’s look at what’s coming next for Warhammer Underworlds.

Wight King

The necromancers are hard at work as we speak, preparing the legions of the undead to march to war later in the year.

Wight King

The Wight King is back, and better than ever! Plus it looks like he will be the vanguard for something new coming for the Soulblight in the near future.

New AoS Soulblight Gravelords Vampires Are Here

Soulblight Gravelords

soulblight gravelordsIt’s stuffed to bursting with a wealth of content for Nagash’s undead legions too, so budding generals of the Death grand alliance definitely won’t want to miss it. After all, Kritza, the Rat Prince isn’t the only vampire setting forth in search of victims – stay tuned to Warhammer Community to find out more.

The new faction of course brings a new battletome, with new rules, lore, battleplans, & everything associated with faction releases in AoS.

Of course, new models are on the way, so let’s take a look at the ones we saw.

Blood Knights

blood knightsLeading legions of the undead in their conquest are the Vampire Lords, frighteningly powerful, immortal tyrants (and definitely not someone to cross in a dark alley), and their elite vampire Blood Knight cavalry.

These models desperately needed an update and these hit the spot! Other than looking absolutely fantastic, they will be getting new rules in the battle tome. It’s a good time to love some Blood Knights.

Deathrattle Skeletons

new skeletons

The Deathrattle Skeletons form the backbone of many Soulblight Gravelords armies, lending the martial might of fallen heroes to the vampires’ dread ambitions.

Deadwalker Zombies

ZombiesDeadwalker Zombies, as you might imagine, aren’t the fastest or most skilled of combatants, but that’s scant comfort when thousands of the blighters are slowly shuffling towards you.

Just like the skeletons, these zombies share a lot with the Cursed City release. Which might lead to more of the line (perhaps the characters?) coming to the faction as well.

Fellbats

Fell batsThese giant Fell Bats are a dab hand at both. They’re also rather good at sinking their teeth into terrified foes, in case you were wondering.

No Vampire faction would be complete without some unsettling monsters on their side. These Bats definitely fit the mold.

Kragnos is the Fourth Broken Realms Book Now

dragon ogre shaggothOther than the name, this image, and the short teaser with his voice, we don’t have much to go off of. We can’t help but get some serious Kholek Suneater vibes, perhaps this character is heralding the return of the Dragon Ogre Shaggoths?  Will Beasts of Chaos get a reboot, or is this just something else altogether?

New Ossiarch Bonereapers Kainan’s Reapers Revealed!

Kainan's reapers 1

Kainan's reapers 2

Kainan's reapers 3

Kainan’s Reapers

Kainan's reapersSent on a mission by Nagash himself to collect a tithe of bones from the mysterious Silent People, Kainan’s Reapers are a humourless bunch adept at one thing above all others: killing everything that gets in their way. In fact, they even get powered up as they slay more and more of their foes.

As with most WHU releases, fancy new rules and ways to play are being introduced, and this Warband really likes to harvest their foes. They may not be amazing in AoS when their rules hit, but they would certainly fit right into any undead army once they get their Warscroll for AoS after the release.

It’s also worth noting Bows and arrows are pretty rare for the faction, so if this Warband wasn’t unique enough now the faction has at least one archer.

Revamped Broken Realms Lord Kroak Revealed by GW

The events of the Broken Realms are so cataclysmic that they threaten the Great Plan of the slann, and Lord Kroak is roused from his contemplation to intervene directly. Even after all this time, Kroak only seems to have grown in power. This is represented in your games with a new warscroll – but you’ll have to wait a little longer before we can tell you more than that.

Lord KroakWhile they don’t give any new rules, at least we know he’ll be getting them. The new model looks great, and finally, one of the most powerful mages of all time will actually have the mini to match! We’ll see how this build goes because there is not a ton of connection points for how big this looks. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn into another Silent King-type situation!

The Current Mini

lord kroakOverall, the new mini is pretty sweet, especially when compared with the old one. The old one wasn’t very interesting with basically nothing going on and after many years, we’re finally seeing something new.

Close-Ups

Lord Kroak 3

Lord Kroak 2When you get up close to the details, you can see how much is going on with the model. With so many little inlays and such, this will be quite the painting challenge.

GW Previews New Sylvaneth Warsong Revenant

Floating on thermals of sheer magic. Warsong Revenants play a Spirit Song which has the power to cause the land itself to come alive. Their music is a balm to the Sylvaneth and the promise of vengeance to their enemies. The Warsong Revenants can even summon a malicious swarm of spites to attack nearby enemies.

Looks like if you want to bring the forest to life to attack your enemies, this is the mini for you! While they don’t give much on the rules, we assume this will be a fairly powerful mage. Hopefully, with some interesting buffs and abilities.

sylvaneth Warsong RevenantWe can’t tell you everything about the Warsong Revenant just yet, but it’s a fair bet that you’ll want some Sylvaneth to be within earshot of their magical melody.

GW has been giving everything of late a giant flying type mini with little insane back pieces. When you compare this to the new Daemon minis, they look to have taken the idea and turned it woodsy. Not that we’re complaining, just interesting to see where they’re taking the aesthetic.

sylvaneth Warsong Revenant 2This definitely has some sweet detail, and we’re interested to see how the little army of spites actually works. It would be sweet if they made some swarm bases for them and you could sing them to life each turn! More likely it will just do damage to a nearby enemy, but the idea of Sylvaneth Scarabs sounds sweet!

2 New Daemons of Slaanesh Revealed!

GW has been releasing the new Broken Realms minis like crazy lately, and we’re not complaining! These are coming hot on the heels of the new Lord Kroak mini, and we may see them in the same book.

Daemon of SlaaneshEmbodying the lethal, ferocious aspect of Slaanesh’s lust for battle, Dexcessa is a combatant of power and grace rarely seen even among the ranks of greater daemons. With wicked-sharp claws and the Scourge of Slaanesh in their grasp. The Talon of Slaanesh soars to ever-greater heights of blissful butchery from the moment the first drop of blood hits the floor.

If you want to get all the pleasure you can from close combat, this is the variant for you! While they don’t give much about what the rules we can expect, with a mini this big, it should be good!

Daemon of Slaanesh 2The softly spoken word to their sibling’s keening war cry. Synessa derives far more pleasure from the manipulation of the mind than brute physical excess. While commanding eldritch magics is as easy as a snap of their fingers. The Voice of Slaanesh’s true power lies in the mesmerizing strength of their words, which are heard across a raucous battlefield by all of the Dark Prince’s devotees.

Who doesn’t love destroying your enemies with magic? Still, with this being so big, we assume this twin won’t be bad in combat either. Again, with how similar the minis are, you will be able to make either from the kit. You’ll either have to decide which you want more or somehow secure two. But with the way allocations have been, that may be a tall task!

Galen ven Denst

AoS Witch hunter preview

AoS Witch hunter preview 3This veteran witch hunter has seen hundreds of witches, heretics, and living dead burned at the stake during his illustrious career. Armed with a holy pistol and his trusty rune-etched broadsword, Galen ven Denst can slay the vilest creatures and even banish endless spells with a determined strike from his blessed weapons. He may be long in the tooth but, make no mistake, nothing gets between this grim huntsman and his quarry.

Looks like he’ll be able to do some serious damage in CC and get rid of endless spells. Overall the mini looks great and should be a fun addition to any Cities of Sigmar army. But he doesn’t go to battle alone, his daughter comes with him everywhere.

Doralia ven Denst

AoS Witch hunter preview 2

AoS Witch hunter preview 4Unlike her father, who prefers to look his prey in the eye as he slays them, Doralia hunts primarily with her enormous crossbow. Its consecrated bolts hit with murderous power, and Doralia is rightly feared for her unerring accuracy with her weapon of choice.

However, more than one of her would-be killers made the error of thinking she can’t also handle a blade and found themselves disemboweled or bereft of a head.

You’ll get a mixture of long-range support and CC with the pair of witch hunters. They don’t mention any rules, but we assume she’ll be able to snipe characters with her crossbow. Either way, it’s a pretty sweet mini!

3 New Water Guild Models Coming to Necromunda!

necromunda hor walpaper

The Underhive is getting some strange new mercenaries in the way of the Water Guild for Necromunda- check it out!

Water GuildThe Mercator Nautica controls ALL of the water on Necromunda, from the sluice run-off that’s essential to the bulk industrial process to the recycled stuff we use in the patrol house to make recaff. Since it’s such a big business. They’re more than happy to grab some ganger to help out while taking those sloshing tanks out to places like the badzones. Having said that, they do have a strong alliance with Escher gangs. So make sure that you read up on our collated case files on the House of Blades.

It looks like the newest mercenaries will be coming in a three-pack. They don’t say whether or not you can take them separately, but if you can, just give us the big guy! Also, these remind us so much of Tank Girl! We could totally see these guys sucking the water out of people to make their own drinking water.

New Necromunda Starter Set, House of Faith & Redemptionists

Necromunda House of Faith

house of faith bookThis tome delves further into the background of House Cawdor than we’ve seen before, introduces new ways to play Cawdor gangs, and looks at their relationship with the outlaws known as Redemptionists.

Nothing beats some righteous fury running down gangs in the Underhive. The new book is sure to add a bunch of rules and a couple of models, so keep your eyes open for them. Speaking of models, a few got showed off!

House of Faith Gang Members

Faith necromundaThese incendiary fanatics can be added to your Cawdor gang, but if you feel the underhive really needs a good purging, you can go all-in and muster an entire force of Redemptionists instead. With models as fabulous as these, we wouldn’t blame you. Looks like the Enforcers might need to start working double shifts to try and dampen things down once these zealots get started.

These models remind us of those Black Fortress Imperial model a little bit, with all the normal fanaticism for the Emperor!

New Necromunda Starter Box: Hive War

necromunda starter boxSpeaking of getting started, Necromunda is also getting an amazing new starter set, called Hive War.

New Starter sets are always welcome, as they provide great entry points of any of the various game systems and this is no different!

necromunda starter box contentIf you’ve ever thought about dipping your toe into Necromunda, now’s the perfect time as this box contains everything you need to get started.

Over 20 models, with 2 vastly different gangs, terrain, dice, a rule book, and everything you could need to get a fresh game of Gang Warfare going with a buddy. You can’t go wrong with this, especially if you haven’t dipped your toe in and have wanted to test the waters of Necromunda.

We know this is a lot to digest so be sure to take your time counting up all of the kits we’re bound to see sometime in the near future.

In the meantime, what new releases do you think we’ll see from GW in 2021 that didn’t make this roadmap? Do you think the other codexes will also be pushed back?
