Are the Upcoming 40k Free Minis Already Revealed?

free-from-gwWith the Daughters of Khaine mini kicking off  GW’s “Free” promotion, do we already know what the upcoming 40k free minis may be?

Most people thought the Daughters of Khaine mini teased earlier this year was just going to be the standard for their new troops. Instead, it turned out to be the first free mini of this new promotion.

Free Miniatures & Paint From Games Workshop

Free! Every month, you’ll be able to pick up a new model at no cost, themed around one of the month’s releases.

With the epic new Broken Realms narrative arc for Warhammer Age of Sigmar kicking off this month, November’s models are Witch Aelves! Morathi would be proud.

Getting the model is pretty straight forward. All you have to do is stop by your local Warhammer store and ask to get one, but as we saw, supplies ran out almost instantaneously.

Yep, you read that right. Free! Every month, you’ll be able to pick up a new model at no cost, themed around one of the month’s releases.

While they don’t say there will be a 40k mini on the Free! menu specifically, they do address 40k in the spend $100 get a coin promotion:

There’ll be a new coin to collect each month and will include iconic symbols from Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000, starting with Daughters of Khaine for November.

So it’s probably safe to assume there will be some sort of Free! 40k promo at some point at Warhammer stores.  I think we can all agree AoS, while very cool, isn’t the cash cow that 40k is for Games Workshop.

Are the Upcoming 40k Free Minis Already Revealed?

So that got us thinking, are the teased minis we’ve seen so far also going to be the next free minis, or are they going to be for Codex releases into 2021? Or why not both? Because that would also mean GW may have revealed the next line up of codexes coming for 9th as well.

It does seem to make sense that the releases would correspond with the newest books coming out. Not to mention the Death Guard teaser fits this mold perfectly and they are coming out with their codex next month.

While the first mini was for AoS, there are a ton of 40k releases coming soon so let’s look at that possibility.

Indomitus day DG unit 1Funny enough, this first shot that looks like a Death Guard model is actually a rumor engine bit that we thought was Dark Mechanicum!

Indomitus day DG unit 2The second shot of the unit is much more clear. It appears that a Plague Marine is holding a Plague Spewer. This would correspond perfectly for a free mini next month with the Death Guard getting their book. So if you play the boys of Nurgle, you could very well be the next one getting a free mini! Or they could very easily use one of the push-fit Death Guard minis from the Space Marine Heroes 3, or another troop level model that is Easy to Build.

If they do roll out a Free Death Guard mini, get to the store early if you want it- they ran out of the Daughters of Khaine mini super fast. Let’s look now at some armies we aren’t sure of when their books are coming.

A Roadmap for 9th Edition 40k?

Codex 9th 2021

Headed into 2021, we know that there will be an Imperial and a Xenos book first up in January. Conveniently there are two new Xenos minis and two Imperial ones left that have been previewed already.

Perhaps all that is left to uncover is the order that we may see them in?

Indomitus day Lelith 2Next up is very clearly a female Dark Eldar model. Who may just be another rumor engine bit we saw a while back.

Indomitus day Lelith 1A close up on the arm makes the Dark Eldar Iconography even more clear, is it the mightly Lelith Hesperax? Most people are clambering for it to be her, but it could just be a Wych mini that will be free. With a Xenos book coming at the beginning of the year, maybe the Dark Eldar have a good chance!

Indomitus day ad mech 1After that, there is a very clearly Ad Mech model holding a small scepter.

Indomitus day ad mech 2 This could very easily be the free Admech mini coming along with their book. Just like the Witch Aelf mini, it is posed dynamically but not over the top, so it could very well either be a character or trooper. The perfect type of mini to be a free promotion!

Indomitus day ork 1The last of the teases is an Ork model. Perhaps an updated Boy? A perfect candidate for a free mini!

Indomitus day ork 2Whatever it is, they appear to have a lizard or dinosaur style skin on their head. Again, they seem to be making the free minis an in-between mini of characters and regular troops. Definitely wouldn’t mind a new Ork Book!

The Only Fully Shown Mini

Indomitus day sister teaseLast up is an actually confirmed model! After taking a look at this sword we get a full look at the model.

Indomitus day sister This is a Palatine – a battlefield commander who works under a Canoness to coordinate Adepta Sororitas forces and smite any heretics who get in her way.

They even came out with some rules for her recently. So that may mean the Adepta Sororitas will leapfrog over the other armies to grab a new codex first (and barely a year after their first full release in 2020)?

Do you think these will be the upcoming free minis? What of these armies do you want to see get a codex next?
