Games Workshop has just announced a Horus Heresy Open Day in May, with clues that the new starter set is indeed real and coming soon…
With a very small reveal during AdeptiCon, we were hoping to see more about the new edition and starter set. Well, it looks like we don’t have too much longer to wait as GW said they will show off the new box, er “edition” in all its glory in May. The events will take place at Warhammer World.
Warhammer Community unveiled the new Horus Heresy Open Day with some other events as well. Let’s check out the details!
Proof The Horus Heresy Starter Set is Coming Soon
This huge event is a must for every fan of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. The massive new edition will be on display in all its glory, and you’ll be able to marvel at the fantastic new miniatures, glory in some of the sprawling studio armies on display, and paint one of the new plastic MkVI Space Marines – who you’ll even get to take home with you.
These tickets don’t go on sale until April 4th, but you can check out all the details and even buy your tickets here. Obviously, we’ve seen that the Mark VI armor will be in plastic and part of the new edition. So, while it will be awesome to paint and hobby on those at the event, we want to see what else will be there!
While a lot of hobbyists were hoping that we would see more at AdeptiCon, May isn’t that far away, and we’ll probably see teasers all the way up to it. This isn’t the only event either coming up for HH.
The Horus Heresy: Battles in the Age of Darkness
Challenge opposing generals across five battles in the Age of Darkness as Warhammer World welcomes Horus Heresy players back for a gaming event where sportsmanship and well-presented armies go hand in hand. Who will win in this contest of generals – Loyalist or Traitor? Find in this battle to determine an overall champion.
You’ll play five 3,000-point games, battling over the awesome terrain in the amazing gaming hall.
Considering this is taking place a few months later, we assume this might even be a tournament with the new rules, perhaps even with 3000 points being the standard for the new edition of Horus Heresy. Meaning, it would already be released by the end of July. With Dominion and Indomintus the big July releases for 2021, and 2020 respectively, that is probably not too much of a stretch at this point!
Speaking of new miniatures, here are all the rumors for the new edition of Horus Heresy starting in the summer of 2021:
“Possible” Horus Heresy Starter Set Box
Thanks to the following exclusive image submitted by a Spikey Bits reader way back when, we now have more to go off and a better idea of everything in the set. If these are right, this could be a gigantic starter.
Also just to note, these are all going to be priced in plastic.
- 40 Mark III Space Marines $200 ($50 for 10)
- 10 Cataphractii Terminators $130 ($65 for 5)
- Contemptor Dreadnought $60 (based on the existing kit)
- Characters $50 (based on the Space Marine Characters pack)
- Spartan $100 (drop from resin based on the Repulsor Executioner price)
- Rulebook and other potential accessories (note the absence of any templates…)
Total MSRP: $540
Total Values: if it’s priced in box at $200: $340 / at $300: $240
Whatever the price comes out to be, even at $300 this could really have the value-packed in there. Especially if the price of the Spartan doesn’t drop as we would expect.
If they do price this at the $200 mark, it could really bring new players into the game, especially if the rules are coming updated along with it.
Either way, new rules and even just one new Horus Heresy starter box set at the bare minimum would be a great thing to see. Here are all the latest rumors on the upcoming rules updates and new models for the Horus Heresy system.
