This post was updated on May 12th, 2025, by Rob Baer with the latest about show runner Henry Cavill’s big Warhammer movie series.
Henry Cavill, the British actor known for his roles in movies such as “Superman” and “The Witcher,” is set to star in and produce a TV show series for Amazon Studios based on the Warhammer 40k franchise.
While they still haven’t given us many details about the type of Warhammer 40k movie or TV show Games Workshop and Amazon Studios will make under this contract, we know Henry Cavill will produce and star in the series!
Warhammer Movie & Amazon TV Show Series
The contract announcement between Games Workshop and Amazon was made in December 2023, and now, Henry Cavill Games Workshop fans can celebrate that the final agreement has been reached, along with merchandising rights in 2024.
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Cavill revealed that working on a Warhammer TV series or movie project is a lifelong dream come true for him. He quipped, “It is the greatest privilege of my professional career to have this opportunity.”

Warhammer 40k Series with Amazon is Happening!
Big news for Warhammer fans! After two years of waiting, we’re finally seeing some serious movement on Amazon’s Warhammer 40,000 project, as one of Henry Cavill’s Warhammer movies and TV series shows. If you’re as hyped as we are to see the Man of Steel come to 40k, here’s what we know so far.
Amazon Studios and Games Workshop have officially locked in their agreement to adapt the epic Warhammer 40k universe into a full-blown cinematic franchise.
The first step? A Warhammer 40k TV series with multiple stories. Yep, the project has been greenlit, and things are rolling.
The Deal is Done
Games Workshop confirmed they’ve reached a final agreement with Amazon. This isn’t just about the TV show—it covers films, series, and even merchandising rights. That means you can expect not only epic storytelling but also plenty of cool Warhammer merch to go along with it. We’re also pretty excited, as the Prime Video Secret Level 40k show was amazing!
This all came just in time, too. According to Games Workshop’s financial report, they and Amazon had until December 2024 to finalize the creative guidelines. Thankfully, they’ve hammered out (pun intended) all the details, and now it’s full speed ahead. This means we’ll finally get to see a Henry Cavill Warhammer show!
Superfan Turned Superstar Producer
Henry Cavill isn’t just starring in the series—he’s also an executive producer. For Cavill, this project is personal. He’s been a Warhammer fan since he was a kid, and he’s not shy about how much this means to him.
“I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me,” Cavill said when the project was announced. “The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and responsibility.”
Cavill recently shared on Instagram that he’s been deep in concept discussions with Games Workshop and Amazon Studios. His team has been sifting through Warhammer’s incredible lore, from quotes to books, figuring out the best way to bring this grimdark universe to life.
What’s Next?
The TV series will officially kick off the Warhammer 40k cinematic universe. While we don’t have a release date yet, the writing team has already put in the work. They gathered in what’s called a “content-room” to map out the show’s creative direction, and the feedback has been so good that Amazon gave the green light to move forward. Unfortunately, we still don’t know the Henry Cavill Warhammer release date quite yet.
No showrunner has been named just yet, but we’re guessing that announcement is right around the corner. In the meantime, Warhammer’s iconic mix of over-the-top sci-fi battles, complex characters, and grim themes has fans counting down the days (well, Games Workshop said years…) until they can see it on screen and actually start the clock for the Warhammer 40k show release date.
Why Henry Cavill is the Perfect Fit for Warhammer:
This isn’t just another sci-fi series—this is a Warhammer 40k show, a franchise with decades of lore, a massive fanbase, and a reputation for being one of the most unique and gritty universes out there.
With Henry Cavill’s passion for the project, Amazon’s production muscle, and Games Workshop’s attention to detail, this could be the franchise’s big moment to break into mainstream entertainment.
Stay tuned as more updates roll in. It looks like the Imperium is just getting started with what GW has dubbed Project One.
Warhammer 40k TV Show Series & Movie Animation Lineup
But it’s not just all about endless war in the Warhammer 40,000 Universe. You can also find hobby tutorials that make painting your miniatures a little less terrifying. They’ve got the tips and tricks to turn your grey plastic heroes into fully-fledged masterpieces, or at least something you’re proud enough to show off at game night.
Ever wanted to paint like Duncan, the man, the myth, the legend? Well, they’ve got guides that will help you step up your painting game, one thin coat at a time.
There’s also a hefty archive of lore to sink your teeth into. Not the kind of lore that leaves you more confused than when you started, but the kind that makes the galaxy feel even bigger. From the machinations of the Imperium to the ambitions of the Chaos Gods, you’ll find plenty of material to fill your imagination with the catastrophic beauty of a universe perpetually on the edge of annihilation.
Plus, you’ll see fan-made armies, crazy dioramas, and epic community battles. Stay in the know with live streams and event coverage. Warhammer TV is where the community comes together to share their love for the game, level up their skills, and enjoy some seriously epic content.
This whole streaming situation could flip on its head depending on how the Amazon deal pans out.
Casting Updates and Rumors for Warhammer 40K TV Show
There are plenty of celebrities who are involved in the Warhammer hobby (and would probably love to be in a Warhammer film), but we always love to see more, even if they are just rumors! Here are the latest rumors of the Henry Cavill Warhammer castings.
Tom Cruise Rumors
In February 2025, the rumor mill started spinning wild tales about Tom Cruise appearing in Henry Cavill’s Warhammer series, but we’re here to tell you that, as of right now, it’s all just nonsense. With no official word from Games Workshop or Amazon, it’s safe to say that clicking on dubious sources won’t get you anywhere.
Gary Oldman Spotted at Warhammer World!

An internet fan poll seems to have cast Gary Oldman as Malacador the Sigilite in Henry Cavill’s new Amazon Studios Warhammer 40k series.
He is quite a prolific actor who has been in so many great films and television series, so it’s fun to see how much he and his family love Warhammer. Most recently, he was spotted with his sons at Warhammer World, but they have been collecting and playing for a long time now!
These pictures are from Charlie Oldman (Gary’s son), and it looks like they really enjoyed their time at Warhammer World! Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they showed off any of their painted miniatures, but according to some other hobbyists, they regularly check out some Warhammer stores in their local area.
So it may just be that his appearance at Warhammer World was just a coincidence for him as an actor.
Amazon Studios Warhammer 40k Series Amazon Casting News & Rumors:
These rumors from October 2nd, 2023 come from Valrak, and again, these are not confirmed, so don’t get too excited or mad about what you’re about to read!
Let’s start with Warhammer 40k casting news for the most likely show that has been thrown around a lot: Eisenhorn!
RUMORS: Amazon Studios Warhammer 40k Series Henry Cavill Casting Choices
- Karl Urban– He has been in some of the best fantasy/sci-fi movies out there. From LotR, Dredd, Star Trek, The Boys, and so much more; there’s a chance he could even be Eisenhorn himself.
- Idris Elba– Is another amazing actor involved in plenty of sci-fi. However, not many rumors about what he would be in.
- Ana De Armas– This one seems simple; who looks more like Alizabeth Bequin than her? If you look at the cover, she is so close!
- Henry Cavill– It would only make sense that he would be in the show. We know he’s going to be the executive producer, but there are so many good options for him, including The King in Yellow!
Some people have been pretty down on the Amazon Studios Warhammer 40k series after The Rings of Power. However, with Henry at the helm and with how protective GW is of its IP, things should shape up okay. However, if he does play Highlander, and is in this series, we probably won’t see this for a little while.
We’ll have to see what other projects come out, but Eisenhorn would be the most obvious first step! That book series shows the 40k world in a great way, and there is plenty of action and drama to go on! Again, though, these are all just rumors, even ones about Cavill leaving the Warhammer project, so take them with all the salt you need!
Frequently Asked Questions About the Warhammer 40K TV Show
The Warhammer 40K TV series has fans of grimdark sci-fi buzzing with excitement—and plenty of questions. Here’s what we know so far about the much-anticipated show.
When Will the Warhammer TV Show Be Released?
If you’re waiting to mark your calendar, hold off for now. No official release date has been announced, but production is steadily moving forward. With Amazon finalizing creative guidelines and pre-production underway, it’s safe to expect the series to take at least a couple of years before hitting our screens.
Think late 2026 as the most likely timeline, assuming no Warp-related delays (or Hollywood ones). Until then, expect teasers, updates, and maybe a sneak peek at the cast to keep the hype alive.
What is Warhammer 40K About?
In the far, far future, humanity is clinging to survival in an unforgiving galaxy filled with interstellar empires, power-armored warriors, and malevolent gods. It’s a place where war never ends, hope is a rare commodity, and even prayer involves a plasma gun.
The series is set in a universe dripping with lore—over 30 years of it, to be exact—and features factions like the noble (but often ruthless) Space Marines, the sinister Chaos forces, and a slew of aliens who are all equally ready to obliterate you.
