Here are the GW new releases that we will probably start seeing next week for June and a little bit more on the big Warhammer 40k preview this weekend!
The crisis we’ve all faced in 2020 has left an impact on just about every business. However, now that companies are beginning to open back up, we could be seeing these long-previewed releases finally make their way to stores soon. Here is an educated guess on the timeline for GW’s next releases, and what we may from the next online preview!
May 23rd Online Preview
Before we jump into the next releases we’ll be seeing, it’s important to note a few things about this next big preview from GW. It’ll be taking place online Saturday May 23rd, and it’s safe to say that anything previewed in this time around won’t release until AFTER we get through all the content from earlier previews. Meaning its probably for new releases later on in summer- past Pariah.
So, whatever is previewed this Saturday probably won’t have anything to do with the new releases that are about to go on pre-order as soon as next week. Plus whatever is going on preorder May 30th we’ll know this Sunday May 24th, followed by a week of GW content previews on Community.
May 30th- Lumineth Realm-Lords Army Box Or Mega-Gargants?
The Lumineth Realm-Lords are something big on the radar. As the completely reworked Aelves in Age of Sigmar, they’ve gotten new models left and right on the same level as the Ossiarch Bonereapers when they hit the scene.
But before we see the entire faction’s model line hit the shelves, we might see the Army Box first…
This is a box containing the core rules, a Battletome, three units, warscroll cards (which look redesigned), some dice, and a 3″ measuring stick. If this is anything like the Sisters of Battle Army Set that dropped a few months before their whole faction came out, then we’ll probably see a rough three-month gap from the box’s release to when multipart kits from the faction drop.
That’s all speculation, but we’ve picked up on the pattern from what they did to Sisters in 40k. Be sure to check out the entire Lumineth Realm-Lord model line if you haven’t seen everything already.
Or perhaps we’ll see the sons of Behemat first, anything is possible these days, as both of these new releases have hit Games Workshops warehouses already.
With all things considered, this would be a fairly easy release for GW since they may just be dropping a single box (with multiple pose variants) and their Battletome. Which we’ve also seen hit the ports months ago.
June 6th- Engine War?
Engine War was supposed to have already been released (as per GW’s one book a month release statement). However, due to changing circumstances, we’re stuck still wondering what the rules on all those dope Ad Mech goodies are.
Pteraxii Sterylizors
Skitarii Serberys
It is worth noting that we’ve already started seeing more and more rules on these units revealed. usually, when GW starts previewing rules, their release might just be weeks away.
June 13th- War of the Spider?
War of the Spider is sizing up to be a huge lore turning point. With Custodes killing traitor Primaris, Assassins hunting down a Chapter Master, and Fabius doing surgery on fallen Custodes all while pissing off the Death Guard by stealing one of their relics, a lot is going on.
You might be thinking that with only a week separating the two Psychic Awakening releases, things might be a little bit awkward. But we’ve seen GW do this in the past with Blood of Baal and Ritual of the Damned back in November into December. They’ve at least shown us that it’s possible for them to drop two big content boosts into the game only days apart, so it isn’t unheard of… Plus, we’ve slotted War of the Spider behind Engine War because there still haven’t even been rules previewed for Fabius yet.
Whatever Gets Teased Sunday Releases May 30th
Reaching beyond whatever gets previewed Saturday, GW always puts out a “Next Week Teaser” on Sunday. That means that whatever makes their Sunday teaser post should be releasing May 30th. If you remember when the Zoat for Blackstone Fortress was previewed, he’s still not been able to make it to shelves since the crisis went down. We think that should put him at the front of the queue along with the possibility of the Realmlords/Sons of Behemat release that we talked about above.
What Does That Mean For Next Week’s Previews?
Whatever makes the Sunday teasers, we should be seeing rules slowly previewed over the next week until it officially releases. Rules remain largely a mystery for the Realm-Lords, Sons of Behemat, and the Zoat, adding even more weight to the possibility of them releasing next.
Releases For June Are Backed Up & Clogging the Pipes
We know that updated rules for Forge World units across all of 40k’s factions are still on the table. Since there’s been no word on the books aside from seeing them possibly turn up during some port scrying, we think they could be pushed back to release sometime in June.
On top of the updated indexes, Psychic Awakening’s Pariah is also on the table for June. What’s a better way to end Psychic Awakening with a bang than a new Box Set? While nothing has been confirmed, we’ve seen a pattern. Whenever Psychic Awakening introduces two new character models, there’s always been a Box Set.
We saw this with Blood of the Phoenix and Saga of the Beast. Now that we have Inquisitor Draxus and Szeras revealed, there may be a Box Set coming sometime in June as well…Which also just so happens to tie in with the timing of 9th edition rumors.
Two Possibilities For GW’s Releases Remain…
Things could go one of two ways. They either let the floodgates open before May ends, or they piecemeal their content and releases starting on May 30th and on into June. If we had to guess why they would want to throw out their more popular/bigger releases before May ends, it’s because the GW fiscal year ends on May 31st.
That means that they have whatever they can sell this month to go into their numbers for yearly revenue. With nearly two months of disrupted sales, they may want to balance the scales a little bit. They could be trying to pull in as much support as they can in their final month. That would also put them back on track for their Q1 fiscal year in June.
GW has already dropped a financial report saying that they’ve been impacted, however, projected to still make £70 million profit by the end of this month.
On the other end of the spectrum, GW may “bite the bullet” and miss potential strong finish of revenue for their fiscal year and just start off in Q1 with releases that should’ve already been out. It could swing either way as we’ve never seen the world impacted from a crisis this way before. It all is dependent on where GW’s management decides to take things.
This Is Just a Snapshot Of What’s Ahead
At the end of the day, this has all been a very zoomed-in look at what’s still to come down the pike from GW. There are so many releases ready for 2020 it may make your head spin…
