GW drops fresh 40k reveals for new Marneus Calgar, Cato Sicarius, and Victrix Honour Guard models. Get the scoop on the contents and our release insights.
Games Workshop just dropped some big news for Warhammer 40k: new Ultramarines models are on the way, and they’re looking sharper than a fresh Talassarian Tempest Blade (get it?)
That’s right, Marneus Calgar, Cato Sicarius, and the Victrix Honour Guard are stepping back onto the battlefield with updated new model sculpts and plenty of Ultramar swagger (and fulfilling some more Space Marine rumors).
These aren’t just tweaks to old kits, they’re a full-on showcase of how far GW is pushing their plastic design game. Let’s break down what’s in the three new box sets, why it matters for your collection, and when you can expect to grab these models for yourself.
A Marneus Calgar Model, Again?
Marneus Calgar has been through more resculpts than most hobbyists have unpainted projects, and now he’s back in shiny new plastic. This is technically his fifth model if you count the throne version from the Rogue Trader era, the classic Terminator pose, his 2018 Primaris upgrade, and everything in between.
GW is once again reminding us that the Lord of Macragge refuses to stay still for long.
We think this new Calgar channels the classic Terminator look, complete with the Armour of Antilochus and those iconic Gauntlets of Ultramar. He’s decked out with personal heraldry and markings that scream Ultramarines tradition.
The sculpt really feels like a nod to his pre-2018 style, updated for the current range.
It’s worth pointing out that GW “just” released him in 2018 with the Victrix Honour Guard, in plastic, so the timing feels a little curious. That said, his model has always been a centerpiece, and having a modernised sculpt keeps him front and center for Ultramarine and Space Marine collectors alike.
New Cato Sicarius Model
Cato Sicarius has been stuck in Finecast purgatory for far too long, so this plastic update is a welcome surprise. Instead of being shuffled off into Legends, GW has given him a new lease on life with a Primaris-sized sculpt.
The new model mirrors the statuesque vibe of his older version but with modern detailing. He’s posed with helm in hand and the Talassarian Tempest Blade raised high.
His Mk X Tacticus Armour is loaded with embellishments, and yes, he’s rocking a glorious back banner that screams Ultramar pride.
Two head options let you choose between a stoic battlefield commander or a full-on shouting hero. For longtime Ultramarines chapter players, this is a huge quality-of-life upgrade. For everyone else, it’s proof that even long-neglected Finecast characters can get a second chance.
Drukhari players, take notes (if you’re feeling lucky); this could be a glimpse of what’s possible for other discontinued resin sculpts.
Victrix Honour Guard Return
You can’t bring back Calgar without his Victrix Honour Guard, and GW didn’t disappoint. These 1st Company veterans have been redesigned in Primaris scale with a ton of customization options. The new kit gives you interchangeable greaves, helmets, and arms with master-crafted bolt carbines.
One model can be built as a Chapter Champion, and another as a Chapter Ancient carrying the massive Banner of Macragge. This might be the biggest flag Warhammer has ever seen, dripping with Ultramar iconography.
If you love over-the-top banners, we think this kit will make your day.
The old Victrix Honour Guard is still listed online, but expect them to vanish soon as these new versions take their place. Their return in Primaris form suggests GW isn’t done revisiting classic Firstborn sculpts.
Final Thoughts From Us: New Marneus Calgar Model
The timing is what’s raising eyebrows. With Calgar already refreshed in 2018 and units pushed into Legends, the return of these characters feels unexpected. With this reveal, we feel like there will be a full-on Space Marine codex reboot in Fall or Winter 2025 to keep hobbyists engaged through the drop of 11th.
Or perhaps their arrival will be part of a new campaign or supplement series, similar to what we saw with Psychic Awakening and Boarding actions at the end of the last two editions?
From a hobby perspective, the Ultramarines have always been front and center in 40k marketing, and these releases reinforce that.
For Ultramarines players, this is pure gold: updated centerpiece models, character upgrades, and a return of an iconic bodyguard unit. For the rest of the community, the big takeaway is that Legends doesn’t necessarily mean gone forever.
If Sicarius and the Victrix can stage a comeback, maybe other factions will get similar treatment in future editions.
