New Battlezone Fronteris Terrain and rules are being released alongside the new season of Warhammer 40k, check out the new set!
With the new, and first, season of 40k almost here, GW is not leaving the terrain behind. They did something very similar with the old campaign releases as well, where you get terrain that matches the setting.
Warhammer Community unveiled the new terrain along with some Crusade rules as well. If you’ve been looking for some new bunkers and outposts, this new terrain might be for you. Let’s check it out.
GW Announces New Battlezone Fronteris Terrain
This battlezone is designed to give you a range of new terrain for your battles on frontier worlds or to add a little bit more militaristic utility to your existing gaming tables. It includes STC Hab-Bunkers, a Landing Pad, Vox-Antenna, Auspex Shrine, plus a selection of stockades, and will soon be available as a complete battlezone and in a variety of smaller kits.
The GW terrain is generally very well-done but can be quite expensive. It does look pretty cool and will add some flavor to your games, plus, if you play Crusade or matched play the pieces do have some special rules.
These no-nonsense facilities are designed to weather the harsh conditions of thousands of frontier worlds the Imperium is attempting to keep its foothold on, providing defence against a variety of threats.
New Towers
We’ll have to see how this fits in with the other releases, but if nothing else, it all fits in with the same aesthetic. So should be an easy addition to your table.
Battlezone Fronteris is quite varied for a backwater position and comes with a Landing Pad, a Vox-Antenna, and an Auspex Shrine – elements that have plenty of utility. Tall, imposing, and perfect for blocking lines of sight, it’s also designed to fit into any existing terrain collection.
Battlezone: Fronteris – Nachmund
Bring your games of Warhammer 40,000 to life with the new Fronteris terrain. Not only are they cool and thematic – perfect for adding narrative flavour to your games – they’re also suitably chunky to block line of sight for your matched play games. Grab this kit to make your games more tactical and tightly fought.
If your someone looking to start your own 40k table, this terrain might just be your ticket in, as it’s more or less a complete board depending on size!
As a huge terrain set, this comes with a ton of pieces and is a fairly large project on its own, but if done correctly it will certainly help with emersion and gameplay by providing interesting play patterns.
Battlezone: Fronteris – STC Hab-Bunker and Stockades
First up is the STC Hab-Bunker and Stockades kit – this bunker acts as an ideal headquarters for a stronghold, while the new stockades can be assembled in multiple ways to create a perimeter that any enemy will struggle to break through.
As it would seem, you can also pick up a few of the pieces separately!
Battlezone: Fronteris – Landing Pad
Continue your expansion onto new worlds with the Landing Pad. It’s the source of transportation for a Fronteris base, helping to maintain the flow of supplies and reinforcements to the sharp edge of the Imperium.
As a simple pad, this might be able to fit on a ton of boards without looking out of place depending on the color scheme, which might make this a popular pickup.
Battlezone: Fronteris – Vox Antenna and Auspex Shrine
Finish off your outpost with a Vox-Antenna and Auspex Shrine. These large structures act as vital communication nodes and make great objectives to defend (or destroy!) in your games.
Just like the landing pad, we can see this fitting into a ton of board styles with slight painting changes, so maybe you should consider these for your own tables too.
Battlezone: Fronteris – Battlefield Gaming Boards
Set your games in an arid frontier setting with these moody new gaming boards. When put together, they make a battlefield that’s the perfect size for a 1,000 point game of Warhammer 40,000.
These boards are generally also the ones from the larger box sets so save yourself the hobby dollars and just pick up the box with the terrain and boards for maximum value!
GW Reveals New 40k Battlezone Fronteris Terrain & Rules
While they did include a slew of new rules in their Warhammer Community post, these look to be the only rules that will matter for matched play games.
There are plenty of other ways for you to spice up your games, matched play or otherwise, thanks to new Terrain Traits. Alongside the Light Cover, Scalable, Exposed Position, and Obscuring traits, the Fronteris Landing Pad has Hidden Supplies ability, which lets your troops raid its cargo holds for ammo and gubbins to give them the edge in a firefight.
The Auspex Shrine lets you Download Propaganda – an action that makes Combat Attrition tests easier to pass, as nearby troops fight overwhelming odds while backed up by messages full of anti-foe invectives.
So from the looks of it, this may have a similar amount of terrain inside compared to the old Battlezones. Which ranged in price from $90-$150, so expect in that range for this one.
