New Primaris Overlord Flyer Spotted? UPDATED

Xiphon

It looks like new Primaris Space Marines may have been hidden in plain sight once again. Checkout what may be the Overlord flyer’s debut!

First we heard of new units from the Dark Imperium novel from Games Workshop and now it looks like the overlord may have been hiding in plain sight all along:

Checkout the rear image of July’s White Dwarf 2017. Look just below the UPC:

The aircraft on the right is probably a Stormraven, however what about under the UPC, obscured by smoke:

Update:

Some printings of the White Dwarf in alternate countries other than the US, seem to be much clearer, as this image was sent into us that seems to reveal the same old Storm Talon.

Here in the States at least, our version seemed to have some unique elements here that appear to differ from the Stormtalon:

First is a drop down sensor suite of some sort, with what looks to be a under-slung dorsal weapon system?

The port and starboard sides boast a weapon system of some kind that appears to be adorned with skulls with a rear exhaust port visible on the port side closest to the reader.

Engines with visible intakes are spotted on the top of the fuselage . Overall it appears to have design elements of both the Stormhawk and the Stormtalon, with the dimensions of the ‘hawk in a ‘talon like configuration. it may even be nearly as big as the Stormraven, but the perspective is hard to tell for sure.

Judge for yourself based on the known aircraft below:

Is this something new, or just clever imaging with a few upgrade bits on existing flyer that is tricking the eye?

Credited to the novel is the aircraft mentioned above, and two new units the Agressor and Reivers (Lore below via Lexicanum)

Description

A Warhammer 40,000 novel Written by Guy Haley

THE STORY
Fell times have come to the galaxy. Cadia has fallen, destroyed by the onslaught of Chaos. A Great Rift in the warp has opened and from its depths spew daemons and the horrors of Old Night. But all hope is not lost… A hero, long absent, has returned and with him comes the wrath of the Ultramarines reborn. Roboute Guilliman has arisen to lead the Imperium out of darkness on a crusade the likes of which has not been seen since the fabled days of the Emperor. But never before have the forces of Ruin amassed in such numbers, and nowhere is safe from despoliation. From the dreaded Scourge Stars come the hordes of the Plaguefather, Lord Nurgle, and their pustulent eye is fixed on Macragge. As the Indomitas Crusade draws to an end, Guilliman races to Ultramar and a confrontation with the Death Guard.

Overlord Space Marine Aircraft

Aircraft image above via our Stormbird article from years past.

The Overlord is a new aircraft used by Primaris Space Marines, one of the vehicles commissioned by the Primarch Roboute Guilliman to the Archmagos Belisarius Cawl.

Overview

Overlords are a new aircraft that seems to be an evolution of the Thunderhawk. It has powerful quintuple engines and twinned hulls thick enough to permit insertion from orbit like Thunderhawks or Stormbirds, despite being similar to Corvus Blackstars.

Like Blackstars, Overlords possess twin transport bays with their own assault doors, but they’re considerably bigger and even more blessed with advanced technologies like energy shields.

Armament

An Overlord is equipped with anti-munitions cannons, wing-mounted Desolator Lascannons, nose-mounted Melta Cannons and Heavy Bolters fixed on its lower wing surfaces.

Transport Capacity

An Overlord can transport up to forty Space Marines. During the Battle of Adrium, an Overlord transported one early-pattern Space Marine and thirty-nine Primaris Space Marines, some of which were wearing Mk X Gravis Armour.

Wow so take that image in your mind of a Thunderhawk / Stormbird and mate it up with a Corvus that is slightly bigger than what we know, and that is probably a good idea of what this new beast of a flyer will look like.

Will it ever see the tabletop? Only Games Workshop and Forge World know for sure!

One more unit from the book has yet to be revealed as well:

Agressor Squad

An Aggressor Squad is a Primaris Space Marine unit, that is equipped with shoulder mounted missle racks, that are reloaded from internal armour stores located within the Agressors’ Gravis power armour. They also wield Flame Gauntlets, that billow forth burning promethium.

Ultramarines Captain 8th

So imagine this Captain in Gravis armor crossed with what a Centurion? Boom goes the dynamite for sure.

Now if and when we will see these two new squads outside of this novel is anyone’s guess, but knowing Games Workshop that day is sooner rather than later!

Plus there are still more Primaris Space Marine releases that will be hitting the shelves this summer for sure. Come see what may be the big teaser from the new White Dwarf for June!

RUMORS – Primaris Space Marines Release Lineup?

The latest rumor was spotted over on BoLS and it gives some details about new Marine box sets that we might be seeing.

Don’t forget to add salt.salt pile

Industry professionals tell BoLS the following on the kits:

Infantry Boxes

Primaris Infantry Box:  5 models w/ bolt rifles, plasma & grav options.

Primaris Jump Infantry Box:  3 models w/ assault bolters & CCW options.

Primaris Heavy Infantry Box: 3 models w/ Gravis armor & heavy weapon options.

Officers/Command

Primaris Command Box:  1 model, build as Captain, Lieutenant, or Ancient.

Primaris Librarian Clampack: 1 model.

Primaris Character (named): Clampack Captain w/ Gravis armor.

Vehicles

Repulsor Tank

Redemptor Dreadnought

Primaris Flyer (details unknown)

The rumor of these new boxes is coming only a couple days after the rumor we saw from 75hastings69.

AFAIK “Initially” there are 4 boxes of “troops/infantry/marines” (including the flying ones), 2 vehicles, the Dread, and 2 “character” sets, which I assume will be captains and Lieutenants. As for when I rarely dare to dabble in such things (especially after the timing of the plastic thunderhawk release.… which might still actually not be wrong, just my guess at the timing thanks to the “we’ve sold our last resin thunderhawk” making me jump to conclusions!). I will say I am “expecting” Death Guard to release after the boxed set and for new marines to be closely behind them….. however I could be wrong of course 😉

BTW I also never thought I’d be starting let alone be excited about an army of SM, however as the new marines range is small and not overwhelming and I like the armour and overall style I am going to start a SM army, just not sure what chapter yet.

So it looks like the Space Marines are going to be getting more individual boxes according to these rumors. But what is that Primaris Flyer all about?

We’ve already seen the Repulsor Tank and Redemptor Dreadnought. But at the same time it looks like GW is going to be breaking the starter down and selling everything individually, just like they did with the Burning of Prospero box. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
