You probably won’t believe the age of all the Warhammer 40k models in your collection, but this chart will tell you!
Have you ever wondered how old your faction’s minis actually are? Well, that’s what we’re going to find out today!
The sheet with all the info was recently posted over on Reddit and it’s super interesting to see! Some of the ages surprised us a little, and some (Eldar) not so much. This is pretty fun to look at, but kinda also sad a bit depending on which faction you play.
The Age of All The 40k Models in Your Collection:
Looks like Tyranids players at least have it better than Eldar, Imperial Guard, and Tau! But since this is all out of order, let’s get it right by age! Thanks to Ravendead on Reddit for getting the list sorted.
So ranking by oldest to newest we have:
- Eldar @ 15.88 Years
- Imperial Guard @ 12.57 Years
- Tau @ 11.33 Years
- Tyranids @ 10.69 Years- I am seeing no new model for over 7 Years?
- Chaos Space Marines @ 9.85 Years
- Orks @ 9.77 Years
- Dark Eldar @ 9.27 Years – Mostly due to the 5th Edition Range Refresh
- Space Marines @ 7.76 Years
- Necrons @ 6.89 Years – Due to range refresh last year.
- Chaos Demons @ 6.5 Years
- Harlequins @ 6.0 Years — Despite having models in the first edition, they only became their own army in the 7th edition, with a model refresh then.
- Sisters of Battle @ 5.0 Years
- Adeptus Mechanicus @ 4.84 Years
- Imperial Knights @ 4.42 Years
Well, let’s be honest, the oldest 7 are really not very surprising. But no new minis in 7 years for the Tyranids is just insanity! At least Eldar has got something in the past couple of years, but man could they use an update as they are the only faction hitting those angsty teenage years. It is pretty crazy to see how some of these lines are just more or less ignored. But even some of the younger factions, like the Harlequins, are only so young because they just aren’t a very old army.

Lastly, it makes you realize just how many units the Space Marines have because even with the constant releases, they just have such a wide range of minis that they rank right in the middle.
Releases Over the Years
The early days were some of the most even in terms of releases. But throughout the ages, Space Marines have received constant releases, where the last 4 years have been really, really rough for Xenos. In the mid-2010s they were grabbing a decent amount, but it looks like everyone’s feelings of Xenos getting shunned lately is factually true.

Ah, just look at those early Squat releases! Just bring them back already… Anyway, other than that, Space Marines just dominate the releases, but just look at the lack of Tyranids and Tau releases in the past 7-8 years. Overall, just some fun statistics to check out!
