How To Use Effect Paints on Miniatures: The Army Painter Tutorial
You can pick up their bundle set of paints here! Like all of their products, they are affordable and high-quality.
Dry Rust
The Dry Rust basically does the work for you, all you have to do is dry brush stipple it over a brown for an awesome rust effect. Or, you can always water it down with a drybrush medium to get a more muted rust effect. Then you can always combine the two to get an effect like the one above!
Blood Effects
Obviously, for this one, they are using Glistening Blood, but there are some important tips to not go overboard here. To start, take a frayed drybrush, dip the tip in the paint, and then at a distance flick the bristles at the mini for an effect that looks great but isn’t over the top.
If you want a more focused application, you can start with a layout of dark red where you want the blood then do a more focused hit with the effects paint once dry. That’s what they did for the model above.
Slime Effects
Disgusting Slime is super versatile and can be easily applied with a regular brush to represent sludge, fleshy nastiness, or anything gross really! It’s super easy to put on, just throw it on wherever you want, and it looks great.
Hiding Mistakes
We all make mistakes, but their Effects Paints can help! Instead of starting all over, just throw on some effects like blood or rust, and not only will the mini look cooler, you’ll save yourself the hassle of going back.
There you have it! Some great tips on taking your miniatures to the next level with these Effects Paints by Army Painter!
