This week Goobertown shows us how to recycle old sprues and turn them into goo and eventually make something out of them!
Goobertown Hobbies is a great content creator with interesting takes on the hobby. Whether it’s a collaboration with other hobby YouTubers or a challenge for himself, he has a broad range of topics he covers. Since he has so much great content, why not check out what else he has done?
In this week’s tutorial, he is going over something quite different but if you have a ton of old sprues laying around, why not make something out of them? It’s better than just throwing them away and making more clutter around the world. Let’s check it out!
How to Recycle Old Sprues: Goobertown Hobbies
First, he started out by bringing all his sprues into one place! As you can see, he has plenty of lying around!
His next step is to cut down all the sprues as they take up way too much space. Then, he’s going to blend them all down. Eventually, he’s going to make something special out of them but first, he has to get them all cut down!
He likes to reuse old stuff when he can, just like this iron that works perfect for holding minis while painting, so why should your sprues be any different?
To start, he throws the smaller sprues into the blender and gets them into pieces about the size above, however, the larger sprues need to be broken down first.
This actually is taking longer than he thought, but he does have a ton of sprues.
Unfortunately, he had an old blender which broke in about 20 minutes… Because of that, he had to resort to clippers, which will obviously take longer but is probably safer.
What Can You Use it For?
The sprues are made of the exact same stuff as the minis, so it comes from the good stuff! But the real question comes in, what can you make out of them? Well, the shapes of sprues aren’t very useful, but since you can melt the plastic, you can melt it down and use it as raw material!
Considering they are made of polystyrene, there are plenty of natural ways to break them down. A common use is sprue goo (when broken down like this) can be used to fill gaps and such, however, in large quantities, it can be used to make something entirely new.
If someone could figure out a good way to recycle these it would be awesome but as of right now, it’s hard to find. We’ll have to see what happens what he comes up with when all of them are recycled!
