We’ve got a pretty good guess on how much the value is in the new 9th Edition 40k Vertigus box set terrain bundle. Take a look.
If you’ve been following along from the very first days of 9th Edition, we saw GW release some terrain which has since made multiple appearances and in growing numbers.
9th Edition 40k Battlezone & Vertigus Box Set Value
It first appeared as a Command Edition 9th Starter set, then was released as a Battlefield Expansion terrain set, and now, Vertigus, as well as an off-shoot kit, called the Sub-Cloister & Storage Fane…Yeah GW may be milking this one.
Anyway, here’s what we think is the best guess for the value behind everything.
Battlefield Expansion $90
You can find this on GW’s webstore currently, although with Vertigus now getting the spotlight it’s probably only a matter of time before this disappears.
This comes with:
- four corners of ruins which comprise one Sub Cloister and Storage Fane set.
- 6x sets of pipe Terrain & Thermo-Exchanger Shrine
Vertigus Terrain Bundle $150
If you look at Vertigus, which is the newest (and biggest) kit announced, it’s essentially double that of the Battlefield Expansion with the second Thermo-Exchanger Shrine swapped with the Auto-choral Transmitter (the one with a guy holding a hammer in the center) as well as three other building ruins pieces according to GW:
You also get a veritable mountain of terrain pieces – 24 in total. These include a Storage Fane, Sub-cloister, Engine Shed, Auto-choral Transmitter, Thermo-exchanger Shrine, and 14 Thermo Pipes.
So as of right now, Vertigus is the only place to get the Engine Shed terrain piece that we saw in their Terrain expansion preview:
The Sub-Cloister & Storage Fane gives us hints to GW’s value on terrain, as it’s the only configuration that is so far sold separately.
Sub-Cloister & Storage Fane $60
Essentially, the Sub-Cloister & Storage Fane is four ruins pieces that have been previewed to make two separate structures. GW values that at $60 which gives us a starting point to debunking how much the individual kits will cost (if GW decides to repackage the piping as an individual kit for example).
With that talked about, let’s revisit the battlefield Expansion & Vertigus kits
Battlefield Expansion-Value Breakdown $90
- 4x ruins pieces (Sub-Cloister & Storage Fane) $60
- 6x piping pieces & Thermo Exchanger Shrine $50? GW’s old piping kits (Thermic Plasma Conduits) were listed at $38 years ago and GW prices have only gone up.
- cardboard playing board-probably the least-used piece but still worth something…?
Total MSRP: $105
Total Value: $15
Vertigus $150
Two Building Sets Consisting Of:
- One Sub-Cloister and Storage Fane $60
- One Engine Shed (consisting of two building ruins and two scatter pieces – it’s literally the same two sprues.) $60?
Plus:
- Thermo Exchanger Shrine With Piping $50?
- Auto-choral Transmitter With Piping $50?
- Cardboard Terrain Board?
Total MSRP: $220
Total Value: $70
All in all, while none of these prices are confirmed, it seems like GW is beginning to design terrain that’s better suited for games of 9th Edition. They’re also making the obvious move of releasing and then repackaging different variations of the terrain to make for more releases.
Overall, the Vertigus is the better option between buying one copy of Vertigus or two copies of the Battlefield Expansion. You get the same total amount of terrain with some variation for less. Plus it is currently the only place to secure the Engine Shed, and Auto-choral Transmitter as well.
