We know that 9th Edition is coming with the Indomitus Box Set pitting new Primaris and Necrons against each other. While we wait for official dates to emerge, it looks like GW might be giving some Box Sets away. On top of that, we’ve got an educated guess on the timeframe from when the box will go for pre-order and eventually hit the shelves.

GW Announces Mystery Box Giveaway
Starting with this mystery box announcement first…
Warhammer Community announced a while back that they’re doing a giveaway and had this to say.
We’re giving away ten Warhammer 40,000 mystery boxes to newsletter subscribers. As the name implies, what’s in them is secret – but trust us when we say that you definitely want to be in the running to win one.
With new artwork of an Assault Primaris, a reworked Necron Warrior, and a new 9th Edition logo, it’s only logical to guess that the mystery box could be the Indomitus Starter after all. With 9th Edition revealed and on the way, there’s no other exciting 40k release at-hand for the mystery box either…at least as far as we can tell.
So let’s look into the details on this giveaway a bit more.

It Would Make Sense For it to Cost More Than 8th Edition’s Dark Imperium

In case you lost track, that’s 61 push-fit miniatures, 1 exclusive launch edition Core Book, the assembly guide and transfer sheet, and the Edge of Silence book with all the rules for your models. We actually packed it so full that we couldn’t fit any dice or tape measures inside.
We have also already heard it may be limited to about 5000 units here in North America, and now we may even have the potential pricing as well.

RUMORS: 9th Edition 40k Indomitus Box Set Release Date

- Late May, Dark Imperium (with Sprue pics) was announced/revealed.
- One week later, June 3rd, 2017, Dark Imperium announced for pre-order.
- Dark Imperium hit shelves by June 17th, 2017 (two weeks later)
So from what we saw from Dark Imperium, it was announced at the tail end of the month with sprue pics. Given slightly less than a month from that point, we saw the Box Set on the shelves in stores. Not a bad turnaround time for a release that big coupled with a brand new rules system…So where are we now for 9th Edition?
Using The Same Model For Indomitus

- June 14th, Indomitus Box Set contents were officially previewed.
- Also on June 14th, Sprue pics of Necrons revealed and sprue pics of Primaris revealed.
Using the same timeframe, it’s was quite possible that we could see Indomitus pre-orders announced for June 27th, to be delivered and released on July 11th (two weeks from then).
However that turned out to not be the case, and industry insiders have revealed to us that GW’s next managers’ meeting is in early July, and they will be expecting them to paint up the new box set, and roleplay selling it to customers as well around that same time.
So looks like the second set of rumored dates of mid to late July are more realistic now, as GW looks to make sure nothing is left to chance for the roll-out of the first installment of the new edition!

With all of this covered, when do you think we will see Indomitus hit the shelves? Are you going to be starting a new army with this brand new Edition?
