We just got our first preview of the new Dicemasters: Battle for Ultramar game from Wizkids. Come find out the latest on the newest dice building game that is one the way.
Today we’re getting a look at the new Wizkids and Games Workshop Dicemasters dice building game: Battle for Ultramar. The preview was originally spotted over on ICv2. How much is it going to cost? What other factions are going to be available? Well let’s take a look and find out.
Set in the dark sci-fantasy world of Warhammer 40,000, the game allows players to build teams of iconic characters and warriors to battle it out for supremacy using custom dice and cards. Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters uses the game system designed by Mike Elliott and Eric M. Lang for Dice Masters, and will be completely compatible with other games in the line.
There will be four factions available at the start, and players can build teams using a single faction, or mix and match to create their own Dice Masters team.
Players can expand their games with two separate Team Packs, each introducing another faction to the game.
The Orks – WAAAGH! Team Pack offers the uncontrollable Orks, with the infamous Ork warlord Ghazghkull Thraka and the Boyz and Warbikers under his command.
The Space Wolves – Sons of RussTeam Pack, meanwhile, introduces Logan Grimnar and the Venerable Dreadnought at the front of a Space Wolves Space Marine force.
The new game looks like it’s going to be a really fun new way to play Warhammer. But will you play as the Ultramarines, Death Guard, Orks, or Space Wolves? Or maybe a combination of all four? The option is there to create the strongest team using different characters and dice from different factions.
We first saw the announcement about the recent partnership between Games Workshop and Wizkids back in October.
October 19, 2017 – Hillside, NJ – WizKids, the leader in high-quality pre-painted miniatures and established board games, today revealed a multi-year partnership with acclaimed fantasy miniatures company, Games Workshop. The new partnership will extend the Warhammer 40,000 universe IP across multiple categories, including, Dice Building Games™, board games and more!
The multi-year deal will span numerous categories and include the most iconic Warhammer 40,000 characters and more. WizKids will create two new board games, along with dice games based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, with additional plans to republish classic board games Fury of Dracula and Relic.
In addition to Dicemaster: Battle for Ultramar it looks like we’ll be seeing two new board games, some new dice games, and a revamp of Fury of Dracula and Relic. Fantasy Flight Games produced both Fury of Dracula and Relic, but now it appears Wizkids will be taking over from here after the FFG/GW split.
Relic is a two to four player game based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Players will take the role of a powerful hero and protect the Antian Sector from destruction, battling to be the first to destroy the evil that comes from beyond the Warp rift. This game is built on the foundation that Talisman has already laid down.
Wizkids already has some great games out there, and chances are if you’ve been into a FLGS lately, you’ve seen people playing them. They make games such as Dicemasters, Heroclix, Star Trek and D&D: Attackwing, Pathfinder Battles, and many more. Not only do they make board games, they also produce some really nice pre-painted miniatures, so you can put those paint brushes down for a little bit.
The new partnership looks promising and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Make sure you check back in with us for the latest updates and announcements from Wizkids and Games Workshop.
What do you think about the latest partnership announcement? Do you like the idea of being able to combine different factions in the new Dicemasters game? Or should there still be some limitations on what factions can be paired together? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
