This quirky little bird bear has been featured quite a bit as far as painting tutorials go, but Jack puts his own spin on painting these feathers in the first part of a new painting series. Strap in and get your compressors ready for some airbrushing!

This tutorial showcases the Army Painter Dungeons & Dragons Paint Set that adds many new colors that come with this exclusive Owlbear miniature. This medium sized model perfect to test your painting skills on a model of a different size than what you may be used to. After priming with some Matte Black, we add a grey, Necromancer Cloak, to create a nice base coat for his feathers. Cover up any thin spots from the original black.

Next, we use Necromancer Cloak with some Flow Improver in the airbrush to add a nice layer of grey on the feathers. This high angle highlight will mimic an Owl Bear from the D&D 5th Edition book, capturing that grey-brown bear color. Pick out the larger areas of feathers where the light would naturally hit the black feathers.

For the coloring of the face feathers, Jack uses Otyugh Brown mixed with Fur Brown. The neck and face get a nice coating of warm colors. On the defining beak of the Owl Bear, use Fire Newt Orange and a brush to warm up the face with a bright yellow-orange.
