Space Marine chapters usually have one or two units that are specific to the faction. Check out these 40k Imperial goodies that you might want to test!
Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Grey Knights, and Custodes all have some unique gadgets up their sleeves. With 40ks meta constantly changing, you may want to check out some of the less-talked-about vehicles exclusive to Chapters.
Dark Angels- Ravenwing Darkshroud
Dark Angels have a special Land Speeder up their sleeve that puts off a -1 to hit aura within 6″. That’s not too shabby when you combo that with Azrael’s 4++ invuln aura! If you go all in on some Hellblasters, you can make them -1 to hit and have a 4++ all game long. But more specifically on the Darkshroud, this thing is fast which means it’s reactive.
You can protect some Hellblasters for a turn, then deepstrike some Terminators in and scoot up the board next to them for protection. You get an always-useful aura effect on a T6 chassis all for 138pts. Not bad.
Blood Angels- Librarian Dreadnoughts
Librarian Dreadnoughts are the Imperium’s equivalent to a Daemon Prince. Sitting under 200 pts, these guys can beef themselves up to gaining fly and a bonus 12″ move AND D3 extra attacks. Keep in mind that their force weapon is -4AP 3 flat damage.
Plus, with character keyword protection, these Dreads won’t be shot off the board like most others in its weight class. The downside to these guys is that they don’t have an invulnerable save.
They can get one with a psychic power but it’s only a 5++ and it’s not worth taking up a psychic slot. These guys really make sacrificial wrecking balls if you really need to take something down. These have been known to bring down an Aeldari Wraithknight in a single round of combat.
Space Wolves- Murderfang/Blizzard Shield Dreads
In the same Dreadnought vein as the Blood Angels, Space Wolves have their own form of killing machines. Murderfang is a named Character Dread that can unload a flurry of attacks. He’s protected for being a character, and while less mobile than the Blood Angels Librarian Dread, he can also reroll failed charges and get 2 extra attacks on the charge for a whopping 7 attacks at 3 damage flat.
As for the Venerable Dreads with Blizzard Shields, these are a solid backbone unit. They’re slow but they have a 4++ invulnerable save (used to be 3++). You’d be surprised at the amount of firepower these guys can soak up if you field a couple in your list.
Once they finally make it into combat, they can do a world of hurt as well.
Grey Knights- Dreadknights
The only time these guys are remotely worth their points is if they are the HQ version. (I.e a Grand Master in Nemesis Dreadknight). Their WS and BS is a 2+, plus they can deepstrike in and flame something with a beefed-up 12″ Flamer. On top of that, they usually are kitted with a sword that does D6 damage a pop or a hammer that does D6 (minimum 3). Being T6 and 12 wounds, they can be shot at but with psychic powers like sanctuary, you should be able to shrug off shots and make it into combat.
While we haven’t covered the whole range of unique vehicles (even though the Dreadknight technically isn’t a vehicle), we feel like these make some great possible additions to any Imperial list. Let us know what your favorite Chapter-specific units are in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
