Deathwing knights step 1 jocpBefore Wyatt gets started on this model he has it in two sub-assemblies.

He primes it with Desert Sand from AK Interactive. He also uses Greyish Yellow and RAL Cremeweiss for the Bone Armor. Signal Green and Deep Green for the greens. Warm Skin Tone and Burnt Sand for his face. He also will try out a new metallic; Bronze from AK. Everything else will just be up to you, just basic colors. Those being reds, blacks, and some steel here and there.

based da dwkWith all the colors down, he primes the model with the Desert Sand, then uses both Greyish Yellow and RAL Cremeweiss to highlight the armor. This is meant to be fast so you don’t have to be ultra-precise here.

robe base da dwkFor the other sub-assembly, he takes Deep Green for the base, then Signal Green and highlights over it.

da dwk steelNext, take any dark steel color and base all of the sections you want steel, and then use the Bronze from AK on any brighter/golden parts. It’s also important to remember, that speed painting doesn’t excuse sloppy painting. be sure to keep it neat while you are working fast.

da dwk faceAfterward, he tackles the face. He takes some Burnt Sand and waters it down for the base coat, followed by the Warm Skin Tone for the highlights.

da dwk redsNext, take any dark or mid-tone red you want to use and block in all the red areas

da dwk chippedTo skip on edge highlighting, Wyatt suggests mimicking chipping with a black-brown, after that take some brighter silver and go over the biggest of the chips.

da dwk doneOnce that step is done we can wash the model. Put the two sub-assemblies together at this time as well. He uses the usual Mr.Hobby Multiblack Oil system. Start by covering the model in the multi black then going back over with the solvent to spread it and remove some of the pooling. He also did this with the brown wash on areas that would be dirtier.

And with that, this Deathwing Knight is complete! If you want to hear Wyatt’s break down, watch the full video below.
