From Matrix 4 to Dune, and everything in between, Warner Brothers is dual releasing 2021 Movies on HBO Max & Theaters- check out the details!
They set the precedence for this with the new Wonder Woman 1984 movie, and it makes perfect sense to us. There is no telling when theaters will really be back in the full swing of things, and they can’t just put all of their movies on the shelf. Looks like the 2021 releases will include movies like Matrix 4, Dune, and Space Jam 2.
It’s also not going to just one or two movies, they will dual release at least 17 movies! They will all be available for a month after the release date, so it may be worth looking at HBO Max for the early part of 2021. But after that first month, they will go back through their normal release windows.
Warner Brothers Dual Releasing 2021 Movies on HBO Max & Theaters
Let’s hear from Jason Kilar the CEO of WarnerMedia, about why they are taking this route:
Like a lot of businesses, theaters are in a tough spot right now. We are all in the middle of a pandemic, and we are all trying to figure our way through it. One of the things we can do to be helpful to them is to provide them with a steady stream of big-budget, well-told stories.

That’s quite the list! a little something in there for everyone. This seems a way better option than just leaving them waiting or only going to theaters. Although at this time the studio is getting a fair amount of heat from other actors and the industry for reportedly paying out millions to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins for their Dec 25th release…
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the end for both how we consume movies, and how actors get paid in general.
What’s your favorite movie on the list? Will you be watching through HBO Max?
