Thanks to Mr. Taste at Blood of Kittens, here’s a look at the latest placings and meta from the larger 10th Edition 40k tournaments last weekend!

Best & Worst Warhammer 40k Armies Through November 8th

The post dataslate meta might still be settling in, but to all of our dismay, Eldar is still at the top for 1st place finishes. However, Chaos Space Marines beat them in total placings!

This is what Mr. Taste had to say:

We’ve achieved our first Drukhari GT win in a long time, and they did it without any assistance from Aeldari units. The Tyranids also made a return, but after a promising start when the new codex was released, they have struggled to gain momentum. Dark Angels and Space Wolves have emerged as the biggest winners so far with the new Space Marine Codex, but it remains to be seen whether they will retain those rules when supplements are released.

Last week, we saw 12 factions take the top spots, but this week, that number went to 18, which is fantastic.

The biggest winner must be CSM, as people continue to test new combinations and are slowly doing better each week.

But how about the larger meta picture overall?  Well, Eldar certainly has more competition at tournaments after the balance dataslate, which makes us hopeful that the competitive scene will continue to get better, and they finally aren’t on top from the weekend…

How to Read This Warhammer 40k Meta Overview Chart:

The Warhammer 40k Meta Overview Chart is color-coded for the most part. Grey is the sweet spot; ideally, every faction would be light grey or between a 45% and 55% win rate.

Blue is overpowered, and in contrast, Oranges are underpowered. Essentially, the darker shades are too far gone and need changes or shifts in the Meta. That’s not to say every darker blue and orange faction needs balance changes, but it DOES mean something needs to be done.

Game balance and meta are super complex, with each faction (and general’s ability) being its own cogs in the bigger picture.

Simply put, the most played faction in any competitive game should never be the most winning faction. As the popularity of a faction goes up, the skill, specified knowledge, and experience of the average player in that faction go down (new players moving to it).

What’s New With Competitive Warhammer 40k This Week?

Chaos Space Marine Codex Wal Hor

Leagues of Votann and Tau might be the two biggest benefactors of the Dataslate, as they both went from abysmal win rates to 55-56% (Tau is at 48% this week)! But this week, Chaos Space Marines easily takes the cake!

CSM finally beat out Eldar for 1st place finishes this week! Either way, it is an excellent time to play Chaos and Xenos in 40k.

Drukhari has also bounced back a bit since falling to the bottom. All the other NERFs seem to have had the intended purpose, except the ones for both Custodes and Knights, as they have dipped below the 45% win rate threshold (which GW mentions in their Oct 19th Metawatch update.)

Either way, there are still a couple of outliers, but most armies are resting in that 45%-55% zone where GW tries to keep the armies.
