Sable has been the go-to answer for detail work since before most of us had a proper paint station, and somewhere along the way it got expensive enough (or hobbyists don’t want to use real animal fur) that a lot of painters just stopped replacing theirs. So you baby the one good Kolinsky you own, rinse it like it’s the last brush on Earth, and somehow still end up watching the tip go fat inside a year.

Fauxlinsky Paint Brush Set w/ Stand Case (8 Brushes)
The eight-brush set covers most of what you actually need too. The rounds are a 5/0 fine detail, 2/0 detail, a 2 basecoat, and a 4R utility. Which is a pretty useful spread instead of getting four brushes that all basically do the same job. You also get three domed drybrushes in small, medium, and large, which is more drybrush coverage than most sets bother with.
The eighth brush is the oddball, and probably the most Turbo Dork brush in the whole set. It’s a 2F flat brush that’s stamped METALLICS, made for pushing their own color-shifts around. Turbo Dork knows their paint sits heavier and behaves differently than a standard acrylic, so instead of making you wreck some random old brush, they made one for the job.
The case is a nice little addition too. Zip it shut when you’re hauling everything around, then pull the string and it stands up as a brush holder.
Synthetic Caught Up To Sable, And $60 Is The Number That Proves It
To us, the whole sable-versus-synthetic argument got a lot less interesting a few years ago. A top-end Kolinsky can still hold a finer point than almost anything, and if you’re chasing a Golden Demon, you probably know exactly what brush you want to use anyways.
But for the rest of us painting 40k on, say, a Tuesday night, synthetics got close enough that the price spread started looking kind of silly.
