It looks like Warhammer 40k is coming to Magic the Gathering along with Lord of the Rings in a new partnership giant Hasbro.
The Wall Street Journal just revealed that a ton of big changes coming to how Hasbro handles D&D, Magic, and even a fabled partnership with Games Workshop. If you ever wanted to combine your love of 40k and Magic into a single game, well, it looks to be happening very soon.
Hasbro will announce new partnerships during its Thursday event, including a deal with U.K.-based Games Workshop Group to bring its war game “Warhammer 40,000” to Magic, and an agreement with Middle Earth Enterprises for a “The Lord of the Rings”-themed expansion.
Hasbro will be supposedly be revealing soon a bit of restructuring and a giant new partnership. Not only will D&D/Magic be getting a dedicated department (and possible Wizard of the Coast itself), but they will also expand with a new LoTR expansion and break the company into 3 units.
BREAKING: Warhammer 40k Coming to Magic the Gathering

Whether you will be able to play the cards in a normal game, or just a stand-alone expansion is a little unclear. Or we could see a similar Secret Lair drop as we did with The Walking Dead. It does seem a little strange that Age of Sigmar won’t be involved (yet), but maybe they just think 40k will just be that much more hyped. We’ve seen some card games for Games-Workshop stuff in the past, but none have ever really stuck. With the backing of such a giant company as Hasbro and the name of Magic the Gathering behind it, we expect this to be different.

Hasbro’s overall revenue fell 18% last year, while GW’s rose significantly. This move to get further into the tabletop side of things seems like a smart move when you look at the statistics alone. They are also breaking their company into three segments so they can give closer attention to each of their new endeavors.
Hasbro Splitting into Smaller Units

With the Wizards & Digital getting a larger handle on the game side of things, we expect them to pump out some quality stuff. It seems like that is the branch will handle all the D&D stuff, obviously Magic, and now a new Warhammer game. It’s good to see D&D not falling by the wayside among all of this and we are excited to see what comes next in the reveal!
LotR Getting its own Expansion

Seriously though, the people who love LotR might just buy the cards to have them even if they don’t play.
Would you play a Warhammer 40k version of Magic? +10 life for coloring your own cards?
