The rumors were true, as GW confirmed brand-new Skaven and revamped rules for 4th Edition Age of Sigmar are on the way this summer!
GW Confirms 4th Edition AoS is Dropping This Summer!
While they didn’t show off any new miniatures, they did put out a pretty awesome cinematic with tons of new Skaven erupting from the tunnels to smash through the mortal realms! More importantly, they talked about free rules and what to expect in terms of changes with the new edition.
Age of Sigmar 4th Edition Trailer

After centuries of planning, they are finally emerging in the all-new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar (and we hope with a ton of new models), which is set to bring a slew of changes to the existing rules and battletomes.

It introduces new miniatures, new rules, an entirely new game mode, and a fresh chapter in the ongoing battle for the Mortal Realms. One thing they did show off is the new Skaven artillery piece!
Release Date for Age of Sigmar 4th Edition:
The tentative release date for Age of Sigmar 4th Edition is rumored to be June 2024. and will feature a starter box of Stormcast and Skaven Miniatures.
What to Expect in the New 4th Edition Age of Sigmar:

The Core Rules have been updated for the first time since 2015, with a focus on streamlining and accessibility, without sacrificing the game’s depth. They also promise every warscroll will fit on a single one-sided card.
The new edition retains the tactical and strategic nuance of previous editions while also bringing the game’s rich background to life on the tabletop. The updated system of command points and abilities offers more opportunities for players to react to their opponent’s turn.
In contrast, the double turn has been fine-tuned into a more balanced and exciting gameplay decision. We’ll have to see what the game looks like, but some of the changes sound quite interesting.
Free AoS Rules At Launch

The new 4th edition Age of Sigmar is shaping up to be an interesting release, with plenty of changes and new additions to the game. Mainly, The Skaven are ready to wreak havoc on the Mortal Realms, and we can’t wait to see what kind of new models they’ll bring with them.
AoS 4th Edition & Starter Box With Skaven CONFIRMED
We’ve heard rumors about new Skaven in the 4th edition Age of Sigmar box, but this supposed leaked Weapon Team sprue makes it seem much more real! However, much like the Bretonnian and Flesh Eater court leaks before this, it’s not that uncommon to see.

Either way, this is the 4th Edition AoS core book in different languages and even the collector’s version! This lines up perfectly with GW’s 3-year sales cycle for new editions, and with the recent trailers from GW, this most likely will be dropping in the summer.

While we probably won’t see this fully released until summer, that’s only a few months away, and we’ll probably see a lot of previews at AdeptiCon 2024 as well. If you’re wondering what else we might see on the Skaven side of things, we had some pretty big rumors for the rat-men, too…
New Skaven Release Rumors To Go With Spotted Sprues
Here is the latest list of new 4th Edition AoS Skaven unit rumors that are making the rounds.

The Clanrats Warlocks, Jezzails, Globadiers, and Ogors are all quite old kits… So, it would only make sense for GW to rework them in one go. However, they might get a reworked style, as we’ve seen lately, where GW puts out about two to three waves, with about three or four kits in each one.
Honestly, almost every model in the line could use a rework at this point (they still look cool, just so old). So, any guess at newly designed kits can’t be that far off. However, we saw a lot of Plague Monk-style Advent Engines, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of that redone.
Lastly, there are a bunch of new units as well. First, the new artillery piece (we’ll have pictures below) and Verminlord would make a whole lot of sense. Then, GW loves making a couple of big kits each time, so new Behmoths and Wolf-rats don’t sound too weird to us. We haven’t seen much about these new units, so we’ll have to wait until the reveals start
RUMORS: New AoS Skaven Weapon Team Sprue Leaked!
We saw a lot of Skaven-looking bits in the 2023 Advent Rumor Engine, but this is the first sprue we’ve seen. This image is not officially from GW, so take it with as much salt as you need. Rumors are just that, rumors! Still, this looks pretty legit and gives even more credence to the new Skaven coming at the top of 4th Edition AoS.

New Skaven Plague Monks?
You may remember this advent calendar image from the holidays. Well, it looks pretty obvious to be something for Nurgle, and GW even mentioned a sticky book. While it could always be Maggotkin, that arm and nails look much more like a rat to us!
Plus, they need an update badly, and maybe we’ll get a huge resurgence of Plague Monks!
The Plague Priest is already modeled very similarly to the rumor, and he’s holding a book! It wouldn’t be too hard to imagine this super old would get a rework. When you compare the hands of the models, they look almost identical to the existing models.
Even the regular Plague Monks have a model holding a book. Who would have guessed the rats are more literate than Maggotkin?
While we should approach these rumors with caution until officially confirmed, they offer an exciting glimpse into what new miniatures and rules could be on the horizon for the Skaven!
GW Hints at New Warhammer Edition: Sigmar Lied & 4th Edition Preview?
For over a decade now, Games Workshop has maintained a very regular three-year sales plan, or cycle, with rotating releases for three of its biggest lines: Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, and Citadel Hobby supplies (like paints, tools, etc.). If the cycle is to be believed, it may be time for a new 4th Edition of Age of Sigmar!
We’ve speculated about the new edition, but this is the first inkling of a new direction for the mortal realms from GW Here is the latest teaser for a new edition of Warhammer from Warhammer Community.
Two Dawnbringer Crusades have set forth from Hammerhal, to forge new settlements and strengthen Sigmar’s hold on the Mortal Realms.
After many trials, the foundations for both have been laid, and the difficult work of building continues. But something is brewing in the dark…
The teaser video is pretty generic, but there are a few hints at what we might see. First, there are some bells in the distance, which could mean Skaven, and of course, there’s some (warp?) lightning!
The God-king Sigmar lied – everything has a price.
More will be revealed at AdeptiCon, on March 20th.
If you ask us, this looks a lot like Stormcast porting into battle, but what did Sigmar lie about? There are a bunch of theories out there as to what it could be. Is the Azyr not protected? In the lore of AoS, since its inception, Skaven has been trying to dig a path to Azyr. Is it finally happening now (we’ve seen a lot of rumor engines pointing towards a giant release for them this edition)? Or are Stormcasts NOT eternal, and the truth is that they lose their humanity? Who knows…
Luckily, AdeptiCon is not that far away, and if you play Age of Sigmar, expect a huge reveal!
We’ve been hearing rumors for a while now about the new Skaven and 4th Edition AoS, but these more or less confirm everything! Obviously, it’s not directly from GW, but they are about as official as you get. We also have some pretty big rumors about what to expect for Skaven with this release, so let’s get into it!
