How to Paint Non-Metal Metallic Swords: Army Painter Painting Tutorial
All the paints and tools used in this video will be from them, so you can pick up all these colors and Speedpaint here. They will be doing three different styles in this video, but we will focus on the silver for this tutorial. However, you can watch the video below for all the styles. You’ll need the five grey paints above to paint this up.
Before we get into the steps, its worth mentioning that they are using the new Warpaints Stabilizer and Retarder. This will keep the new Fantaic paints from drying too fast, which is great when blending. It will also help keep the pigments at more extreme levels, so we recommend grabbing these for a lot of other types of painting as well.
Step 1:
First, you want to paint a sectioned base coat with Deep Grey down the sowd in an alternating fashion, like the picture above. Next, do a large highlight over the previously painted color with Uniform Grey.

Next, refine your highlights in a more focused application with Ash Grey. You also fill in the black spots here to start blending the colors. It’s worth mentioning that a wet palette is really helpful for this. After that, do a more focused highlight with Brigade Grey. Just be sure to make sure everything is blended, as strong colors will look too blocky.
Step 3:
For your fourth blend, you want to use Matt White and hit the higher areas of the sword but still blend in with the grey. You also want to use the white to pick out any fine details (such as the sword edge and middle). One tip here is you want to always put your paint towards the darker areas; this will naturally help you blend everything.
