Sure, the hype was real at the beginning of 10th Edition Warhammer 40k. However, since then, it seems things haven’t been trending in the right direction regarding live engagement for Games Workshop’s keystone live new release previews. There was a drop in live viewership during their recent Warhammer previews. The World Championships of Warhammer preview in November 2023 had the lowest numbers for any of the 10th Edition era previews, indicating a disconnect between hobbyists and the company’s upcoming releases.

There were some really cool reveals at the WCW preview, but people just didn’t seem to tune in. While this one was on quite late, LVO and many other previews around the same time slots have pulled in significantly more viewers in the past.
So, while the time may have impacted live viewer numbers, it’s not uncommon to see Games Workshop stream a preview when they did.

The Battle For Oghram preview in July is where numbers really started to dip. Generally, these streams get about 30k viewers, however, the first preview after the launch of 10th Edition 40k was already suffering from low viewership.
Just a month later, the NOVA Open preview again didn’t break the 25k viewer number. Overall, the community didn’t seem to receive this preview well, but it still showcased some fantastic models regardless.
However, the next preview on Warhammer Day pulled in way more people (perhaps because it was at a much more normal time).
And finally, the most recent stream had the lowest numbers of any Warhammer preview since Warhammer 40k 10th Edition dropped. Perhaps after all the issues with the economy, changes to orders, continued allocations, and product delays in general, hobbyists are just a little disconnected from all the upcoming Games Workshop releases? Or maybe the time slot for this preview is to blame for the lower viewership numbers compared to last year’s grand narrative stream? Either way, the decline in live viewership for Games Workshop’s previews may be a cause for concern for the company. However, it’s important to keep in mind that there could be various reasons for this trend, including the timing of the previews and the overall sentiment of the hobby community towards recent releases.
