Rob is back unboxing the newest release for Warhammer 40k. He’ll see what it takes to get it ready for the tabletop, show you the models’ size, and tell you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building them.
We will show you everything, including the sprues, bits, and of course, the size. That way, you can decide if this is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars. Rob also goes into some pretty in-depth details about the release issues and problems with the release.

Let’s start with the pretty insane value, then get into the unboxing.
One big thing to remember is that these models will all be East To Build (ETB) or Push Fit, which could affect the value. However, with the Indomitus box, some models came out later with multi-part kits, while others have remained ETB to this day (like the Necron Warriors or SM Outriders.)
- Captain in Terminator Armour $40 (based on current character prices)
- Librarian in Terminator Armour $40 (based on current Primaris Librarian)
- Lieutenant with Combi-flamer $40 (based on current Captain in Phobos Armor)
- Apothecary Biologis $40 (based on current Primaris Apothecary)
- Sternguard Veterans $60 (based on Vanguard Veterans)
- Infernus Squad $60 (based on Intercessors)
- Spare Marines Terminators $65 (based on current Terminators, slightly bigger, could be more)
- Ballistus Dreadnought $75 (based on Redemptor, similar size)
Total Estimated Value: $420
There are a lot of new characters in this box, but if you split this with someone, this is actually crazy value!
Now let’s go into the Tyranid side of things…
- Screamer-Killer $60 (based on current Carnifex/Tervigon pricing)
- Neurotyrant $60 (based on the Tervigon)
- Neurogaunts $45 (based on existing Hormagaunts)
- Winged Tyranid Prime $45 (based on Broodlord)
- Von Ryan’s Leapers $60 (based on Tyranids Warriors)
- Termagants $80 (2 $40 boxes, slight increase from current prices)
- Barbgaunts $60 (about the same size as Beserks)
- Psychophage $60 (based on the Tervigon)
Total Estimated Value: $470
We’ll add in the price for the rulebook, but the other accessories are more of a “value add” than anything else.
Total Estimated Value of Both Halves: $890 +Rulebook ($60)?
Total Estimated Value Versus $250 MSRP: $720 (That’s $360 split between both factions, with $470 in estimated value over the retail price)
The Value is High, but Is The Leviathan Starter Set Worth it?
Realistically though, looking at prices on the secondary market, it seems that most character models are selling for $25-30, and the squads fetch the mid to upper thirties, which still totals nearly $550! So even on the low end of values, you get nearly double the box price.
One thing to keep in mind, this will all be ETB (not a bad thing, just something to think about), and it might be a while before we see all the releases separately.
Either way, this has a ton of value for both sides and with so many new models, we expect this to sell like hotcakes. If you split this with someone, this will basically be the best value we’ve seen in a box since Indomitus.
Leviathan 10th Edition 40k Starter Box: Unboxing & Build
This box is thick! About 3.5″ big, and they use pretty sturdy cardboard for this, meaning you can easily use it for storage later on.
There are an insane number of sprues inside, but we’ll check those out later.
Leviathan also comes with a bunch of bases, cards, and the rulebook, so there are plenty more accessories. Just to note, all the cards are tarot card sized, meaning if you’re going to put them in sleeves, you need the bigger size.
Instructions
As we said, most of this is ETB/Pushfit, which means nothing should be too hard to build. But luckily, they give you a little legend for what all the sprues are. Also, how they set this up, they could easily release every sprue in here as a stand-alone kit.
The Space Marine characters have a couple of customization options, but for the most part, there aren’t a ton of extra parts.
The new Dread looks pretty easy to build, and you really shouldn’t need much glue, and will hopefully be easy to change out the weapons.
The Tyranid side of things basically has no extra options. They do have a lot of fiddly parts, but shouldn’t be too hard to build up.
Sprues
There are a ton of sprues in here, which is dope! The Ballistus Dreadnought is quite detailed looking, and from eyeballing it, they should fit into the current shoulders.
The Infernus Squad looks like they will socket together super quickly, which is good when you’re building up this many minis.
The new Terminators are definitely bigger than a Primaris, and the sprue looks super detailed.
Considering these are attached, Rob thinks they might release them in a separate game or something where these two are fighting each other.
The Sternguard Veterans have a decent amount of options for a push-fit box.
The Leaper sprue is highly detailed, but they are a little smaller than perhaps most people had thought.
The Screamer Killer is giant, and all the parts just look really cool.
New Clippers
Rob recently bought himself the Godhand Clippers, and they are shockingly affordable for how awesome they are! If you have a giant project like this to cut out all kinds of bits, Rob would recommend picking up a pair because they work so well and are super affordable.
For the money, Rob thinks they are the best clippers he’s had.
Leviathan 10th Edition Starter Box- Built Models
Starting off the built models is the new Dread. All the push-fit parts go together really easily; just one thing to keep in mind, if you push too hard, you might break other parts!
One awesome thing, the weapons just pop right in from the original Redemptor kit! Meaning you can not glue the arms in and switch out for what you need.
The Sternguard goes together very quickly and looks great. Plus, the Infernus guys have a ton of detail but aren’t very customizable.
The new Terminators are awesome looking! There’s not much to say other than they are bigger and have more detail.
The characters have a ton of detail, and GW did a great job on the posing.
If you want a giant mini, the Screamer-Killer is the way to go! This looks amazing and is just huge.
The brain section on this model is just very detailed, but Rob thought it would be a little bit bigger.
The Prime is interesting, but Rob isn’t too hot on the posing of the wings.
You want to be careful with the Termagants and Leapers because when you’re push-fitting, you can damage other small limbs. So don’t push too hard!
