Mainstream Media claims we’re living in the golden age of Warhammer, mostly due to all the latest attention from Henry Cavill, the WWE, and more!
We’ve seen more and more media attention towards Warhammer lately and with the giant player base and money coming in, it makes sense. Especially when you have celebs like Henry Cavill and Shayna Baszler who have been so open lately with their love of the hobby. While most of what they are discovering most of us in the hobby have known for ages, it’s good to get more people into the hobby.
We’ll have to see if we get a boost in players due to all this media hype. Or we may have seen the increase and not really paid it much heed.
So, what got us thinking about the mainstream and Warhammer? An article by The Face both online and in print talks about how this is the golden age of the Warhammer Hobby and we’re living in it. Guess we better enjoy it!
Mainstream Media Claims Golden Age of Warhammer Is Here
Well, one of the first things they talk about in their article is the current thriving nature of Games Workshop through the pandemic. While a lot of companies were having a hard time, GW soared as people wanted those minis to hobby on! It actually made GW more profitable than Google for the year, which is insane to think about. People being stuck inside has forced more people into the hobby because not only do the minis look amazing, they are super fun to hobby on!
Henry Cavill & The Golden Age of Warhammer
The next good point they make is that the nerd image has changed over the past 38 years. It wasn’t that long ago that being a nerd wasn’t cool at all and nerds themselves were serious gatekeepers for the game. Now with people as cool as Henry Cavill claiming love for the Warhammer hobby, the mainstream is changing the perception of hobbying.
Instead of thinking it’s ‘dumb’ or ‘nerdy’, more and more people are understanding the fun behind doing something with your hands and then outsmarting your opponent. While we don’t think we’ll see everyone understanding, the mood of the general public is definitely changing, thus meaning we’re nearing the golden age.
Talking about gatekeepers, if people want to get into the hobby, we want them to! If you find yourself constantly finding reason people shouldn’t be in the hobby, guess what? You’re being a gatekeeper and well Warhammer is for everyone,
More & More People are Finding the Hobby

As we said above, more people are just getting into the game for the hobby aspect. The cost of minis may seem high and you may wonder why someone would do that. However, any collectibles are expensive and if you’re just painting, you are basically treating the game just like models in general right.
A perfect example of that is Helena Baur or Sylva Paints as she’s known on Instagram. Here’s what she had to say about joining the hobby in the recent article by The Face
I wasn’t so much interested in the playing part But I was interested in trying to paint. In high school I did art and I really loved it. My Instagram attracted attention and I got some followers. People seemed interested in what I was doing. I had them from day one messaging me saying, ‘Welcome to the hobby.’ I was so surprised that everyone was so welcoming and nice, instead of trying to protect their community, which you often get in closed circles.
Will There be a Bust?
If we are truly in the golden age, then that must mean there is something on the other side of the peak. We’re not sure if we are actually there, plus we’re not sure how long the golden age will actually last. Will people just stop paying attention? Will the media care less and less in the next few years? Either way, let’s all enjoy the hobby while we are here!
Just remember, if new people get into the hobby because of any source, be nice to them and help them get going!
