GW previewed some Horus Heresy Death Guard rules for the new edition, and they are still extremely resilient- check it out!
With the release of the starter and new edition imminent, it’s time for GW to start revealing new Horus Heresy rules. This time around, they are focusing on the Death Guard.
Warhammer Community showed off some new legion-specific rules; let’s check them out!
New Horus Heresy Death Guard Rules are Resilient!
The Death Guard believe in going back to basics, winning footslogging fights through attrition and sheer force of will. Soaring into battle with fancy assault packs and other untrustworthy wargear, while not off-limits, is an infrequent tactic. Instead, they’re Remorseless in their advance. After following the Barbaran cardio regimen, there’s no objective these soldiers can’t reach on foot, and no enemy they can’t dismantle – with their bare hands if need be.Â
This is somewhat similar to their 40k rule, where you just always act as remaining stationary, as long as you don’t advance and you don’t suffer effects of terrain or pinning. This also lets you ignore the crew stunned, but obviously, if the vehicle is immobilized, you can’t move.
While some Legions stock up on dusty (and unreliable) plasma weapons, the XIV Legion prefers innovative (and volatile) chemical weapons – imagine a water gun that melts flesh into suppurating ooze. These things are so horrible that the Emperor outright banned them – and considering the sorts of weapons he does allow, you’d be right to assume that they’re unconscionably grim.
This armoury saw the Death Guard sent to more and more unpleasant battlefields – nobody wants their new backyard turned into a toxic swamp. Of course, conquering such hellish planets called for even nastier weaponry… it was a vicious cycle. And a viscous one.
It’s actually pretty cool to get a flamer template from a piston, but the heavier you go, the more deadly they get! The Alchem Cannon is pretty crazy with Torrent (18″), S6, and AP4, it’s going to rip through infantry!
Mortarion
They didn’t show off rules, but we found his rules on the interwebs!
He’s obviously very tough and has plenty of attacks! Then his Warlord trait will make your army super hard to break at any time.
Being able to redeploy him anywhere on the battlefield is super awesome and then you can even charge normally that turn! Then special rules like rending only affect him on a 6. Lastly, his weapons are just super strong!
Death Guard Legion Specific Rules
Getting a template attack with Fleshbane can really sweep through enemy infantry!
The Toxin Bombs are cool and can take out some enemy models as they charge in. Next up, Power Scythes are also quite strong with +2 S and 3AP!
As you would expect they have quite the profile and are hard to kill! They are quite expensive but still, they are just a staple unit.
They are the quintessential bodyguard unit and this also allows a model to take a legion standard.
