With the new model coming out, there is a buzz around the original Eldar Avatar artwork, but it looks like the deal is only for Henry Cavill.
The prolific Marc Gibbons has done a ton of work for GW and there are a ton of original art pieces in his collection that have definitely inspired a new generation of miniatures ( Helbrecht, Grimaldus, Fabius Bile, Mephiston, and more- don’t worry, we’ll show you which ones) even though the art itself is not new.
So, obviously, people have been asking him about the original artwork, or even signed prints, but unfortunately, both seem out of the question, well unless of course, you happen to be Mr. Cavill reading this…
How do we know this? Well, Mark Gibbons said it himself in this cheeky post on his Facebook.
Original Eldar Avatar Artwork Isn’t for Sale Unless You are Henry Cavill
After last week’s Avatar post I’ve received a number of inquiries as to the availability of the original art so I thought I’d pop on to say, he’s not for sale.
That being said… if Henry Cavill starts playing Eldar and is prepared to toss a truly vulgar amount of Witcher coin into my Valley of Plenty, I might reconsider!
It would actually be pretty awesome if Mr. Cavill popped up and bought this artwork as it’s really quite stunning and the new Eldar Avatar is clearly bassed on it!
Considering he obviously keeps an eye on what’s happening in the Warhammer space, it’s totally possible that he gets wind of the offer. We’re not sure how much it would cost, or if he would be interested, but still, we’d love to see if he ponders the offer. There’s also the mention that he would have to start playing Eldar as well, but why shouldn’t he?
Signed Art Prints Out of the Question… For Now
Mark also mentions in the post comments that he is not allowed to sell the prints, only the OG work. Because technically GW owns all rights to sell prints, Jes Goodwin also has mentioned the same thing in the past, so we’re pretty sure this is a very solid part of the GW art contract.
You can find some Warhammer prints for sale on the Warhammer Art site, but as of right now, this bad boy is nowhere to be found, unfortunately. They have some other Eldar work on there, and it’s not insanely expensive, so hopefully, in the future, they offer it for sale so you could grab it if you really wanted it. But, who knows if it will ever happen.
Let’s check out everything Mark Gibbons’ art has inspired in just the last few years.

Now, let’s look at a piece of iconic Mark Gibbons artwork from nearly 20 years ago.

This is quite close to the work and minus the two giant spikes on the glove, it’s awfully close! So again, if you want the OG piece, be sure to get Henry Cavill on the case!
