Editor’s Note: The new More Dakka detachment may be a problem, as at least two major events from the weekend had a top-three sweep of Orks.
1st Place: Zach Point – Orks Army Lists
There are Ork lists that bring the noise, and then there are Ork lists that bring so much noise you’re left wondering if someone accidentally entered a WAAAGH!!! into a 40k event. Zach did just that—walked in with a scrapyard symphony of the new More Dakka Detachment, weird science, and angry green lads—and left with a trophy, and probably a few new teeth.
Leading the charge was Zodgrod Wortsnagga, the Squig Whisperer himself. If you’re unfamiliar, he’s the kind of guy who looks at a feral, barely-domesticated murder pig and thinks, “Yep, I can work with this.” Flanking him? Not one, but two Beastbosses, ready to headbutt anything foolish enough to be standing upright on the wrong side of the table.
The HQ buffet didn’t stop there. Zach brought three Big Meks for re-rolls, all armed with Shokk Attack Guns. These are the sorts of weapons that ask, “What if teleportation, but violent?” One minute your opponent’s elite squad is flexing on an objective, the next it’s reduced to particles and regret.
Then there’s the humble Mek, possibly just there to fix things, or maybe to laugh at things while they explode.
Troop slots brought in two mobs of Beast Snagga Boyz. These lads hit hard, ride hard, and probably smell like engine grease and mushrooms. Each one tagged in next to a Beastboss, creating a tag-team of melee nonsense that most armies would prefer to avoid entirely.
Then came the Flash Gitz. Think: Orks who love shooting and looking good doing it. Not exactly subtle, but it’s very effective at clearing out anything that relies too much on numbers and not enough on armor saves. They may not win beauty contests, but they’ll win you the shooting phase.
Three units of Gretchin helped round out the squad with cheap, sneaky bodies that scream, “Please don’t shoot the expensive stuff.” And when they do get shot? Perfect. That’s their job.
On the ranged side of things, Zach didn’t hold back. Three units of Lootas brought the volume, chewing through armor and soft targets alike with joyful disregard for accuracy.
Pair that with two units of Tankbustas, and you’ve got enough AP to ruin any Knight’s weekend plans.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Ork list without Trukks—four of them, to be exact. These things provide just enough protection to make the early turns survivable, just enough movement to keep people guessing, and just enough dakka to remind everyone they’re still Orks.
2nd Place: Ben Jurek – Orks Army Lists
3rd Place: Michael Mann – Orks Army Lists
Final Thoughts on Army Lists From Rocky Mountain Open
The Rocky Mountain Open showcased Ork domination, with Zach Point leading the charge alongside Ben Jurek and Michael Mann. All of them together proved that green means winning! The new More Dakka detachment might be causing chaos and may need an adjustment soon. At least two big events being swept by Orks in one weekend is no small feat!
The performance of these armies really puts an exclamation mark on the ever-evolving nature of the competitive Warhammer 40k meta. Studying these winning army lists for their tactical synergies provides valuable insights for making your strategic approach.
