Speed painting League of Votann shouldn’t be complex- here’s how to get your minis on the table fast and look good in this how-to paint tutorial.
If you plan on going with the Squats of the far future, you must get good at painting them! This painting tutorial will help you tackle the steps without much hassle, and you don’t even need an airbrush to do it. Just keep in mind this is for a battle-ready standard, so not the highest quality ever, but if you want to field a painted army fast, this is a great tutorial.

He starts with a slap chop method to get the model up to here; you spray it black, drybrush grey, and then white on top of that. This will keep a lot of darkness on the model and give you contrast already. Now, let’s see how to do it!
Step 1:
Max starts with Fyreslayer Flesh for the skin and hits all the flesh with it; the only downside of this technique is you have to be precise, so don’t go too fast and get colors all over the place. Next, he takes Black Templar and hits all the clothes and a couple of gun sections. He wants to be black.
Step 2:
Now it’s time to block in all the brown colors. He starts with Wyldwood Brown and hits all the gloves, boots, and pouches with this. Next, he uses Magmadroth Flame, and just be sure to do thin coats here, or it will be too strong.
Then Max paints all the armor with this, other than the areas you want to stay white. So take your time on the first couple of minis.
To make the white armor pop, he takes his favorite white and does a layer on all the areas he wants white.
Step 3:
Then it’s time for metals. So for silver, he takes Leadbelcher and hits all those areas. He likes this color because it covers everything in one coat.
To add some “pop,” he adds some purple to the little buttons, and if this had a visor, he would paint that purple as well. Then to give a little depth to the metallics, he gives them all a quick wash of Nuln Oil.
The last thing to do is optional, but to make the gun a little more interesting, he takes Incubi Darkness and drybrushes the gun with it.
Finished Model
Last but not least, he takes the model off the base and puts it onto one he’s painted with a lighter gray! This takes under 30 minutes a model, so you can get your minis on the tabletop relatively fast with this paint scheme, and they still look good.
