Games Workshop just revealed the date the new 10th Edition 40k Balance Dataslate will drop, and it is only days away!
If you look at the current win rates for Warhammer 40k armies, things are quite all over the place with Aeldari at the top by a lot and Leagues of Votann and Tau bringing up the bottom of the meta. The win rate percentage between the top and bottom is a full 32%… so things need to change!
Obviously, it’s hard to balance every single faction at once, and since GW dropped all the rules for free in one go, we assumed there would be some discrepancy. While giving out rules for free is nice, it’s also nice to see them making changes a lot faster than 9th Edition.
10th Edition 40k Balance Dataslate Release Date Revealed
The new release date for the 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Balance Dataslate comes from Warhammer Community.

While there are plenty of armies at the bottom to buff, we’re unsure how much they will buff. Rumors are more focused on NERFS, and they might wait to see how that affects the meta.
Big changes are rumored to be coming for the following:
- Eldar Wraithlord Points NERF
- Yncarne assault or appear not both at the same time.
- Necrons Cryptothralls infinite regenerating
- Changes to Towering as it’s the top home rule for every event, and Imperial Knights are mixed after 60 point increase and having blocking ruins.
- GSC, where do we start
Let’s look at the current meta and see what they might change.
Current Warhammer 40k Meta & Army Win Rates
Statcheck.com has us covered on the overall Warhammer 40k Meta, too, compiling the data up to August 28th, 2023!
Comparing the newly updated rankings to the previous ones below, Eldar is up a hair, with GSC down the same amount, and all of the runner-up factions seeming to spread out the win rates. At the bottom Death Guard and Votann are still underperforming when hobbyists actually even play them.
Win rates continue to fluctuate as players grapple with an edition still in its infancy, figuring out the tactics needed to secure victory in the new ruleset. There have been several surprise results at various tournaments that challenge the overall data, but enough games have been played that we can now pick up trends.Â
Accordingly, the Warhammer Studio are already hard at work on the next points updates and balance dataslate for release this September, which will aim to lift struggling factions just as much as it reels in the top performers.Â
GW tries to keep armies in the 45% to 55% range, and for 10th, very few armies actually fall in that range. 15 factions are actually either really better or way worse than the rest.
Eldar has been leading the pack since the release of the game, and even a couple of NERFs didn’t do too much to them. Hopefully, GW has taken notes and is going actually to make moves to bring the meta back to normal.
As we said, for friendly and home games, the meta isn’t as important, as you can pretty much play armies near each other in the tier lists, and you’ll have good games.
This, in turn, means everyone is talking about the current balance issues that seem to make people not want to play.
