Games Workshop has made the Battleforged Army Builder section of their 40k app free… but there is a bit of a catch.
Just a few weeks ago, GW said they would make the Battleforge (list building) section of their app only for Warhammer+ subscribers. However, they have surprised us a little and kept some of it free for everyone! Not only will that stay usable, but all the rules for the index cards will remain free.
Keep in mind that as new codex books are released they get updated data cards that look not to be included in the free offering for index cards.

Games Workshop Makes Battleforged Army Builder FREE on Their 40k App
The announcement about the Battleforged Army Builder section of their 40k app comes from Warhammer Community.
From today, most of the Battle Forge functionality will be included in your Warhammer+ subscription. Subscribers will be able to create as many armies as they like with the full functionality of the app.
Free users, on the other hand, can create one army list at a time – the Create Army button will be disabled once one list has been composed. Note that your existing lists will not be removed if you already have multiple ones made, but you won’t be able to make a new one until the others are deleted.
Here’s the catch: you can only make one list for free at a time. However, if you’re playing a game, you can just delete your old list, and go back in and make one for your current game (unless you don’t want to lose your old lists).
While some people might be upset about the restriction, it’s actually better than we expected. It’s always good to see GW giving out some free support, and you can still keep using the app if you want. If you get really annoyed by only having one army at a time, you can use any of these alternatives or pay for Warhammer+.
Tyranids Codex Ready for Activation
This release also contains all the datasheets, Detachments, points, and Enhancements from Codex: Tyranids. To access these additions, you’ll activate them using the unique code printed in your copy of the Codex.
This material replaces the current Tyranid Index on the app, and your existing lists will remain intact. Without a code, you’ll still be able to access the points values – as laid out in the most up-to-date Munitorum Field Manual – as well as the rules for Imperial Armour datasheets and the Tyranid Combat Patrol.
You can at least access the most up-to-date points whether you have the codex or not. However, if you want all the rules on the app, you’ll still have to get the code from the codex, and it looks like this will be the way moving forward.
So overall we have lots of good news for the Warhammer 40k app from Games Workshop, and this really seems to bode well for the release of all the future 10th Edition codex books as well!
