Forge World just gave a nice size comparison chart for the new Astraeus Super-heavy Tank. Come take a look at how big it actually is!
Forge World has released a size comparison chart for its new Astraeus Super-heavy Tank. In the chart, the Astraeus is compared to a Baneblade, a Repulsor, and a Rhino, and its sheer size is awe-inspiring. This gives us a really good look at how big the new Astraeus Super-heavy Tank is!
The sheer size of the new tank is a little awe inspiring, the big guns alone are almost the length of the Baneblade from the looks of the picture. This wasn’t the first size comparison of the new tank we’ve seen though. We got another look at it next to other vehicles during the Forge World preview on Warhammer TV.
Tony Cortell was happy to show off a lot of new stuff from his mystery box, including the new tank.
The new Astraeus Super-heavy Tank is absolutely humongous compared to the Repulsor (7″x4″) and the Rhino (3″x5″), and looks to be mounted on the Imperial Knight base similar to the Coronus Grav Carrier.
But what about its firepower, mobility, and durability? Don’t worry, Forge World even gave us a quick breakdown on those in this Three Things You Need To Know about the Astraeus Super-heavy Tank.
What happens when you take the firepower of a squad of Sicarans, mount it to a chassis with the mobility of a Repulsor and armour it like a battle Titan? You get the Astraeus Super-heavy Tank – the first ever Super-heavy designed to accompany the Primaris Space Marines into battle and a nigh-unstoppable force on the tabletop.
The new tank is now available on Forge World, and so are its rules. So how good is its mobility, durability, and firepower? Let’s take a look.
The new tank has an impressive stat line with a 12″ Movement, 5+ WS, 3+ BS, Strength 9, Toughness 8, 24 Wounds, 8 Attacks, Leadership 9, and a 2+ Save. Plus it can fly 12″.
You don’t see your first drop in stats until you’re at 10 remaining wounds, so well over half of it’s total health. As if a 2+ Save wasn’t enough to help keep those 24 wounds around as long as possible, it’s also equipped with Void Shields.
Void Shields can be used instead of normal or invulnerable save rolls, and it can be used negate mortal wounds. Roll one dice for each mortal wound that has been inflicted on the model, at full health you will need a 5+ and the wound is ignored. However, the void shield saves cannot be used on mortal wounds inflicted by its supercharged plasma eradicator.
Steel Behemoth is going to allow this tank to Fall Back in the Movement Phase and still Charge in the controlling player’s turn. It’s also going to be able to fire its weapons at enemy units within 1″, with the exception of the twin macro-accelerator cannon. Enhanced Repulsor Fields is another one of its abilities and it’s going to make it really hard for your opponent to get in close. Your opponent suffers a -3 to charge rolls for units that declare a charge against an Astraeus Super-heavy Tank.
All in all this new tank is looking like it’s going to be a force to be reckoned with on the table top. But it also has the price tag to match.
Astraeus Super-heavy Tank £220
The Astraeus is a super-heavy tank, similar in form to the smaller Repulsor transport in use by the newly created Primaris Space Marines. It mounts a formidable array of weapons, designed around a pair of immense macro-accelerator cannon. Providing a stable firing platform for these temperamental weapons are banks of enhanced repulsor plates, allowing the inexorable advance of the Astraeus to continue unhindered by hostile terrain or the vain defiance of the foe, while its layered void shields can shrug off even the most devastating weapon strikes. The Astraeus is a symbol of the Imperium’s might, unbowed by the dawning of a bloody new millennium and unbroken by the onslaught of its foes.
An appropriately large and aggressive-looking model, this multi-part resin kit makes 1 Astraeus Super-heavy tank. It features 4 repulsor pods, 2 at the rear and 2 smaller ones at the front, configured to allow the Astraeus maximum manoeuvrability. These are connected to the 2 hull sections – the rear hull is dominated by the enormous twin macro-accelerator cannon, which extends along the entire length of the rear hull, with a detailed ammunition feed featured. Backing this up in terms of weaponry is a turret on the front hull, which can be equipped with twin heavy bolters or twin lascannon, and 2 sponson turrets which feature your choice of las-rippers or plasma eradicators. Included are 2 void shield projectors on their own mounts.
The kit is supplied with a 160mm round base and flying stem. Rules are available as a PDF download.
