6 New Shadowspear Librarian Psychic Powers SPOTTED

shadowspear primaris 4

Do not miss the new Warhammer 40k psychic powers that are here for Primaris Space Marines from the upcoming Shadowspear box set.

We knew that both factions inside Shadowspear would be getting their own mini codex. However, did you know that means they’re getting their own Psychic powers? Let’s break down each one that was spotted on Reddit and see if Space Marines just got a lot more competitive in the Psychic phase.

Vanguard Librarian Psychic Powers

The Librarian is designed to conceal and shroud his allies and get them behind enemy lines. Fittingly enough, his Psychic tree is called the obscuration discipline. Remember, these powers only work on Adeptus Astartes Phobos units. So there won’t be any 16″ moving Thunder hammer/Storm shield Terminator units running around.

Looking at the powers:

  • Shrouding (WC6): Select a friendly Astartes Phobos unit within 18″. Enemy units can only shoot at that unit if they are the closest and visible to them.
  • Scryer’s Gaze (WC6): Select a friendly Astartes Phobos unit within 18″. That unit can reroll failed hit rolls for ranged attacks. The enemy also doesn’t receive any cover bonus.
  • Temporal Corridor (WC6): Select a friendly Astartes Phobos unit within 3″. That unit may move and must advance. However, you advance 3D6 and discard the two lowest results.
  • Hallucination (WC6): An enemy unit within 18″ suffers -1 LD. In addition, the enemy rolls 2D6. If it’s higher than the leadership of the unit, they subtract 1 from all hit rolls.
  • Tenebrous Curse (WC6): Pick an enemy unit within 18″ that cannot fly. They suffer a mortal wound and half any movement, advance, and charging until the next psychic phase.
  • Mind Raid (WC6): Select an enemy model within 18″ They suffer a mortal wound. In addition, if your army is battle-forged and you selected a character, roll 3d6. If you beat their leadership, you gain a CP.

Breaking Down the Psychic Powers

So first off the Phobos Librarian knows two powers in addition to smite, and can deny one.

For the most part, every codex has psychic powers that are just inferior to a couple of the others and never see play. However, looking at this list, it seems like there’s a genuine use for every one of these. Depending on your playstyle and how you have your units loaded-out, you may pick Temporal Corridor over Scryer’s Gaze, for example. Just double down on assault weapons and sprint to objectives in the Psychic phase!

Shrouding is essentially Cloud of Flies, however, we feel like it’s going to be much more beneficial in a Space Marine army rather than a Nurgle force.

Space Marines are notorious for having a low CP count due to their high-cost models. With that said, Mind Raid can help mitigate some of the CP exhaustion you feel. Since you can deepstrike the Librarian anyway, you should be fairly close to a character or two for the most part in the game. It’s always good to regen CP if you can. It just gives you longevity to pull tricks off in your games.

All in all, every power looks to have a solid use on the tabletop. One of the most attractive things about the Obscuration discipline is the fact that everything goes off on a 6+. That’s crazy cheap! Tell us what your favorite psychic power is out of this list.
