The Porphyrion is one of the latest models to hit the Titanicus arsenal. Given time to see how it plays, this thing is too strong for GW’s tournaments!
An event packet for the official GW Adeptus Titanicus tournament has banned Porphyrions outright and heavily restricted the Acastus-class Banners altogether. Digging a bit deeper, here are all the details of what’s going on.
Porphyrions in Adeptus Titanicus
If you play any amount of Titanicus, you probably have come across the Porphyrion a time or two. These are just under the scale of a Warhound, however, pack an absurd amount of firepower and are able to shrug off enemy fire better than you would expect for the points. Essentially, the value on these units is incredible for what you pay in points.
When you take multiple of these guys and use the Coordinate Strike rule, these things can hit like MUCH cheaper Volcano Cannons from a Warlord. Plus when you order them they are +1 BS which essentially allows free first fire missile or split fire attacks with a bonus.
The Strength 8 and 3″ blast of the magna lascannon will utterly annihilate Knights and lighter Titans, and can give Reavers and Warlords a metaphorical bloody nose too – especially in larger Banners within a Knight Households force, where they can use the Coordinated Strike order to increase the weapon’s Strength to a potential 12, making Devastating and Critical Hits much more likely. That’ll teach those Titan Princeps to make an enemy of the Knight Households!
However, players seem to also complain about the time it takes to place and scatter their 8 small blast templates. Either way, it looks like GW has reigned them back for an official tournament they’re running.
GW Bans Porphyrion At Their Own Tournament

If you notice under the event rules on the upcoming Warhammer World Titanicus Tournament for February 2020, they banned Porphyrion lances outright and restricted the Acastus Knight Banner in general.
Taken from the event packet for the tourney, the wording in red is pretty bad for the Porypyrion in general. However, it essentially says that Acastus Banners are restricted. Although, Questoris and Cerastus Knights are fine here.
To some, this news might seem frustrating. It’s never fun to see GW release a new model, make it fantastic for sales, and then restrict/outright ban it. To others, this might be fantastic news as you’re tired of seeing them on the tabletop being obviously undercosted for the kind of work they can do on the table.
