Top 3 Space Wolves 40k Army Lists Right Now

We’ll be going over the top three Space Wolves 40k army lists from the LVO. Since tournaments are on hold, this may be a good picture their meta right now.

2020’s LVO brought in nearly one-thousand different players to roll dice. Now, we’ll be looking specifically at some Space Wolf lists that didn’t do too bad. Keep in mind that even if someone places in the top 300, they’re still doing better than over half of the players overall.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.

286th Place: Paul Hoch- Space Wolves

LVO hoch 1For the first detachment, a CP battery was made out of some Intercessors and Priests. A decent shooting platform was also made with six Aggressors rocking the boltstorm gauntlets. These guys could fire twice if they stayed still. But if they found themselves in melee, they could ignore the -1 to hit with their power fist in the first round of combat.

Next, almost 400 points went into a 10-man Wulfen squad loaded with axes, claws, hammers, and storm shields. Basically a fatty unit with the works. With so many units on top of a 3++ invuln, they could absorb a surprising amount of hate.

LVO hoch 2To build more into the shooting platform two Eliminator squads along with a dakka Leviathan hit the table. Two Impulsors were loaded with (probably Intercessors) and scooted up the board with a Shield Dome for that sweet invuln protection. With Wulfen, Intercessors, and Impulsors b-lining it straight into the enemy’s face, the Leviathan, Aggressors, and Eliminators were able to pop targets from far away while still having a foot on some objectives. Sweet list!

272nd Place: Scott Rumple- Space Wolves

LVO rumpleThis list was just little bodies moving very fast. It’s important to note before we jump into all these lists that every single HQ had their own jump pack. That was probably to keep up with the advancing Wulfen and Impulsors dumping Intercessors out after they moved.

Now, going into this list, a Battalion of Intercessors was made with each sergeant having a power fist. Making the most of the Space Wolf Chapter Tactics, on the charge, these guys would ignore the -1 to hit with a S8 slapper.

Pretty good thinking there. These guys were loaded into Impulsors and shot up the board to create pressure and buy time for three squads of thunder Wulfen to connect. Meanwhile, all those HQs were right behind them moving 12 +D6″ to give them their aura bonuses.

Plus, for another hard-hitting and hard to kill squad of Space Wolves, some TH/SS Termies dropped in via deepstrike and started to party.Overall, this is a crazy aggressive list with hardly any firepower at all. Way to go on doing work with a melee list!

264th Place: Tim Cook- Space Wolves

Space Wolves

LVO cookThis list uses more units that differ from the other two lists and finished higher on the leaderboard. Using Bjorn and Njal, he was able to have a stupid tough Dreadnought walk up the board under the cover of psychic support from the Stormcaller. Some cheap squads of Grey Hunters also hit the table and were ready to grab objectives and clear screens with their chain swords if they had to. Meanwhile, some Intercessorswith 2-damage bolters could one-tap enemy Primaris units.

Two Warsuits also made it into the list and instead of infiltrating up-close with an incendium cannon, the less popular autocannon loadout was brought. Probably to help with all the Iron Hands running around honestly. Wulfen also made it to the table sprinting up the board under the cover of two Suppressor Squads shutting down overwatch and three Eliminators picking off key characters.

Overall, this list has some fairly light firepower but a whole lot of melee smackdown. There’s not a lot worse than getting double-teamed by Wulfen squads with TH/SS. The only problem was getting them there. However, all the other units more than likely cleared the screens to let those Wulfen go to work. Awesome job.

Space Wolves have had it rough since their codex. They’ve been in need of a decent rules overhaul. Looking at Saga of the Beast, they may have gotten a huge helping hand. We’ll have to keep watch for more Space Wolf lists in the tournaments ahead to see how top players use their new tricks.

What do you think about the Space Wolf support in Saga of the Beast? Do you run a Space Wolf list similar to one of the ones from above?
