How Should We Deal With a Pile of Shame?

goobertown hobbies pile of shameBrent from Goobertown Hobbies, just like many of us, has a pile of shame in the form of the minis he has collected. How does he deal with it?

Goobertown Hobbies is a great content creator who has interesting takes on the hobby. Whether it’s a collaboration with other hobby YouTubers or a challenge for himself, he has a broad range of topics he covers. This time around he tackles his pile of shame! A pile of shame is the models you’ve gotten and never worked on. Some of us face the same issue, we often buy new things when we haven’t even finished other projects! How does he deal with it? And what can we learn from him?

How Should We Deal With a Pile of Shame?

goobertown diggin in teh pileFirst things first, be sure to go through your collection! Reminisce, remind yourself why you have the models, think back to the excitement when you got them. Are you still excited? Do you want to paint them or play with them in a game? Take out all the models you said yes to, and place them to the side!

Goobertown decide on modelAs you are digging through your own pile, you may realize old models you hadn’t thought about in quite some time. Really examine the models, try to figure out what kind of mood you’re in. What kind of model or painting challenge do you want to tackle? If you think a model looks exciting to paint at that exact moment put it to the side! Spontaneous projects can often be really fun. When we try to grow as hobbyists, these types of actions can often make us try new things and get better at them too!

After you have gone through your pile, try to separate the top dogs, the creme de la crop, the most exciting models to you at this time. If you are like Brent, you may be tired from looking through all those models! It’s okay to step away, just be sure to remember the experience and the emotions you felt about models. Hobbying is supposed to be fun. If it feels like a job, try to mix it up. Find that model that re-ignites your imagination and excitement! Paint what you want to, not what you “have” to.

And with that, you should be pretty well equipped to regularly dig through your pile, and maybe even start to tackle some of it when you get excited about it!
